Out of interest, are they markedly better than/different to The Royal Ballet? (I last saw a Marinsky ballet nearly 20 years ago when I was in Russia as a student, so I'm a bit behind!)
On a side note, I see the Bolshoi now transmit productions to cinemas - I'm hoping to catch A Hero of Our Time that way, later this year. It will be interesting to see how they dance such a complex set of stories!

We may be at war by then.

We may be at war by then. I must admit, I'm considering brushing up the old language skills... you never know when they might come in handy. Between Trump and Corbyn, we may yet all end up learning Cyrillic!

Isn't it the Mariinksy who do the happy ending Swan Lake? Never liked that! Might be going to catch a couple of these though.

Yes I believe they do have a happy ending version, never seen their version so can't vouch for it but I will probably book for this and one other when bookings open in March.

The Mariinsky Swan Lake is 15 shades of awesome. Yes, like many Russian productions there is a happy ending, but that's easily offset by the wonders that is their corps de ballet. I would sell a small, unused piece of my soul for a regular supply of Mariinsky Swan Lakes.
Whether you think the Mariinsky is better than the RB or ENB depends on what you like, but they definitely win on the classics and pure technique IMO.
Anna Karenina had mixed reviews when it came to London previously, their Don Q is a bit more restrained than the Bolshoi's over the top fun version (but still miles better than the current RB version). I love any Bayadere and theirs is lovely but I can't remember whether they still have children blacking up (less lovely) or whether that was the Bolshoi. Russia does seem to happily ignore the 21st century for a number of issues...
