Saw STOS' production of Made in Dagenham in Sheffield last November and thought it was excellent. Have heard that Croft House also put on some great shows too. Sheffield University Performing arts put on some great shows too but then I'm a little biased there

The Tower Theatre, Stoke Newington claim to be Britain's most active amateur co. with 20+ productions a year. They have a new home and kick off with the splendid Pal Joey. (note: Joey is not even slightly PC, but if you can cope with "Dolls", you should be able to live with "Mice".) www.towertheatre.org.uk/pal-joey/ Pal Joey introduced me to Musical Comedy. In the summer of 1980 I went 5x to see Dennis Lawson and Sian Phillips. This has been top of my list of want to see's for many years. (Note isn't there a thread for upcoming productions? I couldn't find it.)

A small but longstanding amateur dramatics company in Southampton (running since 1968) - Maskers Theatre Company. It’s a small studio space but they do a lot of plays and one outdoor summer show a year. Its a small venue but the productions are usually excellent (and they have a bar!) www.maskers.org.uk/index.php

PTC in Putney are very good. They are doing Lucy Kirkwood's The Welkin this week and Joe White's beautiful family drama Mayfly next month. He's coming along to a rehearsal and seeing the show (I'm producing it). Great to have that kind of support for amateur theatre, the people who often give a play "more life".

Questor's Theatre in Ealing are currently doing Much Ado About Nothing. The Bridewell Theatre in London sometimes has good quality amateur productions. Agree that ArtsEd in Chiswick is often worth a look too - I saw "Two Gentlemen of Verona" there directed by Trevor Nunn.

Agree that ArtsEd in Chiswick is often worth a look too - I saw "Two Gentlemen of Verona" there directed by Trevor Nunn. I am somewhat ashamed to admit that, though I've lived very close to Ealing for about 18 years, I only became aware of the existence of Questor's Theatre last Autumn. Since then I've been to four productions, and they have all been excellent, both in terms of acting and production values.
