I saw this was because it was doing a bonus Friday matinee, don’t know why though? FROZEN also had a matinee last Friday - maybe this is a summertime schedule for all the tourists and families in town - and they eliminate Tuesday evenings?

The Cher Show** $100 For a biographical jukebox show to work, it has to be dramatical, like Jersey Boys and Tina Turner, this wasn’t that, hence why it is closing so soon, I am not a lover of Cher music, but neither am a fan of Tina Turner or Jersey Boys, but when it done for stage well, it can be glorious. Stephanie J Block was very good and is a nice person, she is a worthy Tony award nominee, but maybe not a winner.
The Prom**** $103 Quality of shows this week has been decidely downtown, but this little beauty takes you approximately in the Upper East Side. Best show I have see this week and the one I would’ve given the Tony to. Also Caitlin Kinnunen, she would’ve been my choice for the Tony. Closing prematurely and the early closure, people will say this is a bad show, as good shows run don’t they? Just like Groundhog Day did. But this says a lot about Broadway and it being too bloated, a show in a small theatre that costs $16m to mount on and $600k a week to run. Since premium prices, Broadway has gone the same way with a lot of money wasted on hanger oners, why would a not too famous actor need a publicist, understandable if you are a star actor, but not for a featured actor. Goes to some way in explaining why so there is such a big cull this August. It is possible that both Beetlejuice and Tootsie could be gone by January. As for the Prom a brilliant show with a great book and score by Matthew Skar and Chad Begulein.
King Kong**** $45 This was meant to be terrible according to the critics, I didn’t find that. The best puppet I have seen since Joey in Warhorse. A handful of songs I also enjoyed, which I had a advanced head up, thanks Elaine Paige. This cost a cool $35m to put on and that show lost every cent of that. Could come to London as a show that is very projection heavy and the puppet could come over, so the cost wouldn’t be that great here.
