Didn't Adam Guttel have a go. But an issue with loyalties from the book writer so it never progressed

Yep, Adam Guettel started, then he and William Goldman apparently got into a fight 'cos Goldman wanted 75% of the author's share, and Guettel who was writing both music and lyrics thought that was unfair. I will forever mourn the Adam Guettel Princess Bride musical that never was.

It's such a shame Adam Guettel hasn't released anything since Piazza- that was a glorious piece of musical theatre. It's also baffling to me how Piazza never saw a London stage.

I would LOVE to see The Light in the Piazza staged here. I have seen numerous clips on YouTube and apart for the music, the whole 'look' of the show is simply beautiful. I wish there was a way the PBS special could be viewed on this side of the pond.

I too would love to see The Light In the Piazza staged in London. I have the cast recording and really enjoy it. The short story/novella by Elizabeth Spencer on which it is based is well worth a read - as are Spencer's other stories. They are published as The Light In The Piazza and Other Italian Tales by University Press of Mississippi, 1996. I got a cheap secondhand copy via Amazon marketplace.
