Last week there was a show on Dutch tv where the most prominent musicals of last season and the most anticipated new ones gave a performance à la the Olivier Awards, but just to celebrate the kick off of the new theatre season. Maybe more like West-End Live meets the Oliviers, I guess. It seemed fun and maybe interesting to share the performances here too and see what you guys all think, not sure if you will need a vpn from the UK to watch the videos. Performances include Ivo van Hove's JCS, a new Dutch tour of Shrek and Sister Act, and the Les Miz Arena Spectacular which also has a stop in Amsterdam. The playlist with all performances can be found here: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLDQYfE7BLAcppOB_d0279uoavsW4-_G0Y&si=VzFR68apivVef9DzMy unorganized thoughts: Personal favorites are JCS, unexpectedly loved "De Mol en De Paradijsvogel" which I knew nothing about, obsessed with Vajen van den Bosch as Elsa in Frozen. The cast of Saturday Night Fever seems awfully white though, it doesnt feel quite right, missing that Italian-American flair, if that makes sense. Oh and William Spaaij with his song from Elisabeth was great too, always been a huge fan of him in everything I've seen him in.

No VPN necessary! Agree about JCS, that performance would deffo get me wanting to see that production. And Let It Snow too… fab! But what was going on with the arrangement for Bradley Jayden’s Stars? That sounded like it had been messed about with somehow. And overall to me it sounds like there’s something slightly off with the orchestra.

Thanks for sharing, great to see some new faces. Oddly enough, I had been tempted to book JCS but that preview has convinced me not to. I fear I am still too in love with the OAT version.

Thanks for that. Just watched all the performances an really enjoyed it. God Bradley Jaden can really belt out a tune.
One question. The Musical number when they were dressed as high school kids, were they repeatedly singing "slag"?

But what was going on with the arrangement for Bradley Jayden’s Stars? Yes, it was definitely a different arrangement with his phrasing different in parts and some of it very clipped. It was not an improvement on the traditional version.

Yes, it was definitely a different arrangement with his phrasing different in parts and some of it very clipped. It was not an improvement on the traditional version. The orchestral crescendo after “must pay the price” is more of a whimper. It’s all wrong. Not keen on that conductor with the hair being so prominent and flinging his arms about either. Very Muppet Show.
