I’ve hit a theatre lull. I’ve seen everything I wanted to see and so I’ve been turning to alternatives to get my fix. For musicals, brunch at the Juno Rooms with 3 amazing west end singers and a fabulous drag hostess. I’ve even turned to close magic with Rhythm and Ruse, a bottomless close magic experience with an amazing singer knocking out jazz age tunes and some very charming hosts.
So what does everyone else do? Or do you stay at home and save all your pennies for theatre?

Hiking, cooking, reading and films all float my canoe.
I prefer not to go to the cinema as its another night in a theatre type seat. Im much happier on the sofa with a cuppa.

A good read - usually a play or Booker Prize listed, a series or box set that has 7 1/2+ rating on IMDB and hiking/cycling/camping trips all over (a few days to a few weeks). I'm a bit on and off with writing and painting. Basically, a combination of culture, nature and exercise.

August was a big lull last year and has turned out the same again this year. It's movies for us. Close on a couple of thousand discs about a meter away from my desk (yes, streaming is good but it doesn't have everything, you can't own anything and things can vanish easily) so we catchup on classics we have never seen or usually world cinema, lots of subtitles

I've had a summer of concerts which I've enjoyed immensely and I'm definitely going to seek out more gigs next year (Sabrina Carpenter already booked). I saw Taylor Swift 3x, Girls Aloud 3x, Kylie and Pink. Bloody expensive but ultimately worth it.

I sit and twiddle knobs and make funny sounds with my synthesizers. Just whatever sounds itch a specific part of my brain. I like the music of Aphex Twin for that.
Music is still a passion of mine outside of theater. Sitting down with a record on the turntable when the day is done with the lights dimmed and a cup of tea is great.
That, or films. I'm on a bit of a world cinema binge too, but a lot of older Italian horror flicks.
I think you just need hobbies to take the edge off when you aren't working all the time.

I often while away the hours on "dating" apps looking for something to entertain me that evening.
Like the theatre, it can be similarly disappointing if one gets too hyped about it beforehand but the occasional effort will be a nice surprise.
As a result, my attention span, IQ and mental health have all suffered & most of my trousers end up with muddy knees.
But on the plus side, it's a lot cheaper than the latest Jamie Lloyd effort.

I make reproduction food and sweet packaging from the 1970s. Then a group of us dress up in vintage 1970s clothes and entertain the public as a recreation of a 1976 campsite.
| roadie my son who's in a band and, with a Hammond organ, finds it difficult to go to gigs on the bus. Keeps me young.
Then I practise my German so I can revisit the haunts of my Austrian grandfather (And perhaps wangle an Austrian passport - he was Jewish).
I collect and scan vintage fashion magazines of the 20th century. And dream of time travel.
