Van Hove, 65, resigned last year as artistic director but retained a €145,000 salary as artistic advisor, which has now been terminated. The city-funded company’s entire board has also resigned. Van Hove has staged productions at Covent Garden and the Metropolitan Opera, as well as on Broadway and in the West End.

They don't explain much. I suppose that being the leader of an organisation for too long is not good. It can lead to abuse, complacency, etc.

Remember that Google Translate isn't the greatest so maybe anything fine wording should be taken with a grain of salt if you don't speak the language. But it sounds like work there was absolutely horrid.
Heavy deadlines, illegal working hours and an apparent hierarchy... A lot of the issues risen are mostly from people within the creative departments, with actors and tech people both expressing concern about violent and sexual behaviour brushed off as "part of the work". When reported, nothing was done.
Ivo is never mentioned but it feels like news places are putting two and two together.

International “success” Is quite generous Perhaps “spread himself too thin” Is better I would not count either A Little Life Or Opening Night To be universal hits or critically acclaimed Rather a step backwards compared to his native work |

I mean, I think everyone associated probably aren't getting work anytime soon regardless, and I'm sure we'll be hearing more.
I wonder how Ivo's planned London plays are going to go, if they're even happening at all now. They'd surely have to make sure there's massive safeguards put in place to let anyone NEAR him.

The timing of this story was very favorable to Ivo. He had just started his first of three years as Artistic Director at the German www.ruhrtriennale.de/en. It seems like most of the initial press for this year's edition of the festival was conducted prior to the story breaking, as was the New York Times article about the festival. |
