It's a couple of weeks since I last visited their site, but I see they are now using % saving, instead of original price, as their comparison against the price they're offering.
I'm curious, because my job at the moment is becoming more and more about online user experience (UX). Does this change on Tkts offer you a good UX?
It puts a barrier in the way for me, because I'm rubbish at maths. Tell me the original price, tell me your price, I'll do a quick mental calculation and decide if I think the pounds saved make a purchase worthwhile. Throw a percentage in there, however, and I'm going to need a calculator!
I mean, pop in a percentage if you must - but add an extra column to the table to do it, surely?

I went on for the first time in ages also and noticed that. I'm top notch at maths, but didn't like it. 'Spose we'll get used to it in time

It also means it's no longer clear that in some cases they are charging more than you'd pay by walking up to the theatre's box office!

Having gone to the box office of The Go Between yesterday instead of the tkts booth, and getting the same tickets there for £25 as would have been £29.50 at tkts (i.e. day seat price), it got me wondering - how common is this? That going to a box office in the day will undercut what you get at tkts? Do theatres generally also offer their leftover seat at dayseat prices, as well as sending them to tkts?

I did it once for Les Mis. Looked at the prices on Tkts, and then went to the Les Mis box office, mentioned I had looked at the Tkts booth prices, and asked what they had. The box office were happy to offer me seats a bit cheaper than the Tkts price. The guy even said 'saves us the commission'. Good seats too, not restricted.

I don't like how they've taken off the theatre price. I agree with the above, I'm sure it's so that it's not clear when TKTS are charging more than the Box Office. If there's no percentage savings showing, I'm sure one would presume that the price is the same as the Box Office, rather than more.

I also noticed the percentage appear recently and I quite like it, but it still makes me no more likely to book via TKTS. In my post about seeing The Go-Between I made the same point as does SamB above, except that when I went, TKTS was charging £27.95 cf £25 at the theatre, so the difference has increased, and as others have said, the main benefit of the TKTS website is to highlight occasions when you'd be better off approaching the Box Office first.
I know it is a business but imho TKTS has strayed too far from the original purpose, which I understood was to sell significantly-discounted (always 50% for years) tickets on the day. Reducing the discount - and without publicising this - and starting to sell tickets for future dates has made the booth more like a booking agency, especially as you have to pay a £3 fee, though this is part of the price. As most of the venues served are within walking distance and, as we've said, generally offer better deals, why would any of us use TKTS?

I agree with the above 100% - TKT's was somewhere you used to go and you knew you were getting a very good bargain, most shows were on there, producers liked it, as they knew that an empty seats is worth nothing to them, at least they get something for their seat through TKT's. Now it seems to be bad kudos if you have a one of your shows on there, Wicked could easily have tickets for discount on there, as I have seen many empty seats, as could Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The New York version is a lot better, where you can only get tickets for the day and they generally sell all shows, apart from Hamiltom, Book of Mormon, Wicked, Aladdin and The Lion King. I feel your pain, Michael. Us single folks get a raw deal everywhere! We can't take advantage of 2-for-1 offers, we don't get a 50% reduction on council tax, and to add insult to injury, we're expected to make do with lesser seats towards the back of the auditorium even when there's a perfectly decent one further forward, that just happens to leave a space free... |

I noticed tonight, as of I'm not sure when, the TKTS website is now displaying the theatre's price, their own price, and the percentage saving. Rejoice!
