Those of you not on TikTok might not be aware of the current drama surrounding a video that has surfaced of a child in a youth production of a show. It’s not the best clip, the child has tuning and timing issues but is totally having the best time. Sadly, some rather well know musical theatre professionals have jumped on this video and are using it and lip syncing to it with captions like ‘me when I go on after 2 weeks holiday’ or ‘me when I have to swing on for a track I haven’t done in months’. Ben Platt and Hannah Lowther being some of the culprits.
It’s been called out as bullying and the mum of the girl involved has spoken out. All a bit not very nice really!

It’s a real shame for the child to be mocked like this but I think it’s important to say that I don’t think anyone making videos is doing so maliciously or with the intent to cause upset. People are just jumping on a trend without thinking about how that young girl might feel. It’s careless and this should hopefully serve as a good lesson for what content they should and not be making going forward. But let’s not go cancelling people.

Hmmm the one Hamiltons official account reposted with Joel Montague was done in a very patronising belittling way so I don't buy that I'm afraid. They knew what they were doing, making fun of a child's bad performance. What's even worse is Joel, Ben Platt and even Rob Madge all initially doubled down on not being in the wrong. All supported by their friends in the comments. It showed a lot of people's true colours tbh. It took quite a while for them to delete, and in a couple of cases admit they were wrong (not all did though). Performers often show themselves as being quite thin skinned when it comes to criticism and jump on the slightest thing to do an online rant so there was a strong hypocrisy here. Also, can you imagine if someone dis that to one of their kids?!

Identifying details removed and thread closed. See Rule 5 Accepted that we’re not criticising the child here but we’re certainly drawing attention to the matter so let’s stay out of it.
