This, Anastasia and Bandstand were all pretty similarly received. I think in a less competitive year two of them could have been nominated (there are certainly shows of the same standard or weaker that have been nominated for Best Musical before), which is why people were expecting a 5th nomination.

In a season as good as this, there is no cause for a Bandstand, Anastasia or War Paint to be nominated. Not being nominated isn't an indication of failure at all. Nominations go to shows that show a special type of excellence- and these shows, though have their merits, aren't cutting edge or bring anything new to the table.
Bandstand would do okay, I think. I doubt it will seriously suffer for a year. There's always going to be demand for a "big band" type music and a big dance musical. Anastasia has teenage girls, mommies, families and those of us who grew up watching the movie will keep it alive for a while.
War Paint will finish its booking period gracefully, and close upon the end of the leads' contract. Not a success, but not a failure either. It might even surprise us with a tour with B-list leads.

Don't know about Bandstand tho, but Anastasia will certainly be there for a while.
War Paint is doing money now, let's see what happens after the summer.

Having seen six show a few weeks ago - if I had to choose one to see again tomorrow it would be WarPaint. It's hysterical. Sure Patti chews her words but this show has some of the best one liners ever in a musical. I adored it. (Far super is to the mess Anastasia!) I can't wait for a cast recording! Christine is sublime....

So, I saw a bootleg of a try-out and was able to see the production itself while in NY. The show is good, ok, but could have been much better. The book is ok, kinda shallow. The songs are good, with Pink being a highlight.
LuPone is my dead last out of the nominees, her acting was good, but the accent is incredibly wrong. Ebersole shines, It's my first time seeing her and I can tell why she's a Broadway legend, AMAZING.

Saw the show tonight. Very much enjoyed, I think the slightly book problem is that it is essentially two different stories at once and they never really connect too well. Ebersole and Lupone both great. I think though it's a lot easier to warm to Ebersoles character - Patti is very much playing Patti. The show has been completely built around these two leading ladies. I didn't like the scene near the end where the two meet each other as I felt it brought the whole show to a halt. Score had some good moments but never reached full potential. Costumes were gorgeous - also surprised this didn't get a lighting design Tony nom, I thought it was excellent.

The men's numbers are awful, Dinosaurs, really bad.
Forever Beautiful can't compare to Pink
The highlights are Fire and Ice, Face to Face and Pink.

I downloaded Patti's opening number and I LOVE it.
It's brassy, brash, big ol' Broadway song that represents everything a Broadwayphobe despises. Loved it. I think I listened to it six times in a loop.

Does anyone know if Patti Lupone and Christine Ebersole will still be in the show around Halloween? (the show will still be opened at that point? I've seen different news online and I'm confused.)

I think if the show is still running, LuPone and Ebersole will still be in it, bar absences or sickness. I don't think the show can make it without them. It'll close once the ladies' contract is over. I think it MIGHT have a chance to float without Ebersole and as long as they get a serious Broadway leading lady, but no way without LuPone.

Well. I swear Patti LuPone looked at me in the third row. I think it may have been my beautiful eyes and great cheekbones but it could also have been because I was (by some great distance) the youngest person in the front of the stalls. I think it was the eyes.
I LOVED this. It's all about the leading ladies. And when I say it's all about the leading ladies, it's all about PATTI. She turns the camp up to about 100 and gets all the best lines and I loved being up close and seeing her jaw go crazy as she belts out the big notes. And no-one can belt like Patti in all her bizarrely accented, lazy dictioned, grab-you-by-the-throat Broadway fabulousness. Ebersole looks and sounds sensational but the show is all about The LuPone.

So, I was wondering... does anybody know around what time should I start queue for the rush tickets?
