Nothing particularly interests me this year.
The cast for Oliver is good, but no big desire to see the show again.

I think it's pretty solid but maybe a bit reliant on adaptations of popular novels.
Looking forward to some Pinter in the Minerva & I think the Rolling Stones play by Charlotte Jones could be fun.
Glad the Oliver! cast isn't what we'd feared.

I see that Nigel Havers features as a 'character' in Redlands by Charlotte Jones. Wonder if he'll like that!

The Le Carre adaptation intrigues me as it is a story that I have wanted to tell on stage but lacked the writing skills to undertake (even if I could have got permission)

Chichester: "The Promise" Driven by ... the visionary firebrand Nye Bevan, a very British revolution is in the air.
National Theatre: "Nye" From campaigning at the coalfield to leading the battle to create the NHS, Aneurin ‘Nye’ Bevan ....
Donmar: "The Human Body" Iris Elcock, GP, Socialist and Labour party councillor, is working tirelessly to implement Nye Bevan’s National Health Service Act
Ha ha. I get that it is an election year and the massed ranks of subsidised theatre ADs want to do their bit but echo chamber programming like this looks a bit ridiculous. I will obviously revise this opinion if any of these plays is even mildly critical or ambivalent about Saint Nye and his works.

The Le Carre adaptation intrigues me as it is a story that I have wanted to tell on stage but lacked the writing skills to undertake (even if I could have got permission) I recently re-read Smiley's People and it occurred to me then that the long interview scene in it would make good theatre, it is like Pinter. Overall this looks an interesting season although I don't think we need another "innovative twist" on Miss Julie.

It's a great year for fans of plays about Nye Bevan.

I'm looking forward to Coram Boy and The Cat And The Canary (I saw the film with Bob Hope when I was a child and loved it). Redlands sounds intriguing. I hope they've cleared the script with Nigel Havers as he has always struck me as a prickly character.
My reaction to "The Promise" was the same as Jan's above and that was before I learnt the Donmar was doing a similar themed play. Also, I am tired of re-imaginings of Chekhov, Ibsen and Strindberg plays by contemporary playwrights. Can't they come up with their own original plots?
I'll probably go to see Oliver! with my son.
I would have liked to have seen one classic in the programme. Unless they consider the Pinter is the classic.
I'm moderately interested but not ecstatic.

Would be inspired casting to cast him as his father, The ages don't work for that, tempting as it might be. Michael Havers was in his 40s when the action takes place. With the best will in the world, Nigel at 72 isn't going to pass for 43 even in the dusk with the light behind him.

Researches "The Promise", written by Paul Unwin.
Oh, Paul Unwin was the co-creator of Casualty - he knows about medical drama. Oh, Paul Unwin wrote The Enfield Haunting - maybe not...

Managed to get through the to Box Office. Usual benign response. Acknowledgement that the site crashed and fielding "many calls" from CFT friends. Advice is to "try later". I suggest anyone with similar problems complains most strongly.

I got there in the end. I’m sure there is more to it but seems like there wasn’t a waiting room before the queue so it crashed before the queue kicked in!

We have never been but now live on the direct train line. So booked a double bill of The Caretaker & Oliver for a day day away.
