Saw the matinee yesterday and didn't really know what to expect, but really enjoyed it. The second half is definitely stronger, but the cast is so strong that it is still an enjoyable watch.
I've spotted that it is now due to come to the Riverside Studios in December and Wimbledon in the New Year.

I saw this in Birmingham on the 10th. It was enjoyable but not up there with the greats. The audience was rather rowdy and there was a lot of singing along 🙄

I quite fancy seeing this but it’s around £70 at my local theatre (Woking) next week. Any one know of any discounts? There’s still loads of availability but I’ve never known woking to discount.

Saw this at The Lowry tonight and loved it. I thought it was beautifully done and surprisingly bittersweet in parts.
Stevie was just adorable as Kevin and Dolly was spot on with some incredible vocals.
Also a well behaved audience with no singing along.

Just announced it's coming back to Manchester at the Opera House in Feb which seems pretty close to the current Lowry run.
So much for the posters at the Lowry saying it was "prior to a West End run"

I absolutely loved this at today's matinee watch at the Lowry. 2 brilliant performances from Tricia and Steven backed by a 4 piece band. It was easy to see Jonathan Harvey's input into this show with his both this humour and more emotional moments with Vilanch and Barre's book. I really wasn't expecting much from the book for this one, but it really is quite a heartfelt and bittersweet piece of writing that actually ended up being a really watchable and at times emotional piece.
Both Tricia and Steven are a great pairing that works a treat and those vocals from Tricia as Dolly really do seem like it is Dolly Parton on stage. The score worked well, particularly in Act 2 with the more emotional moments though quite honestly even the more comedy moments where the songs are used are just a joy to watch with some fun choreography. This show certainly doesn't just break the 4th wall, more like smashes it and this afternoon's audience certainly responded well with those moments. The bits of magic were good fun.
The attic set design from Paul Willis was nice and filled the Lyric stage nicely without it looking cramped. The finale was great fun with us all on out feet having a sing along to send us all home in good spirits. I enjoyed it that much, I have booked for a another watch when the tour arrives in Liverpool next month and with a front row stalls ticket going for £26, it would be rude not to (especially when they are going for £94 a few seats down).
Rating - 4 stars.
