It’s actually quite a charming piece and the book held up better than I’d been expecting. Likewise Andrew Lippa’s score really grew into the performance, filling the vast space of the auditorium.
Karimloo was undoubtedly the star and brought so much likeable charisma to Gomez but Visage also shone. She was slightly more grounded than I’d anticipated but she nailed the role and got some of the biggest laughs with her dry humour and cutting remarks.
Special mention should go to Chumisa Dornford-May, who only graduated last year, for tackling the show’s two most iconic (and best) songs - ‘Pulled’ and ‘Crazier Than You’ - as a particularly fierce and feisty Wednesday. Kara Lane was brilliant as Alice also, in many ways picking up where she left off as Mrs Danvers in Rebecca last year.
The plot is based on the original Charles Addams’ original single-panel cartoons and while it is relatively entertaining, it does at times feel like you are dipping into one episode of a series of events in the life of the ghoulish family. Uncle Fester’s (Sam Buttery) narration can also occasionally veer into pantomime.
Overall though, excellent fun, wonderful casting (Jane Deitch strikes again!) and great entertainment. I’d definitely buy a ticket for a fully produced West End run.
Four stars.

Having never heard the music before, I have "Crazier than You" stuck in my head today (after attending the matinee) which is pretty amazing. It's not often a song from a musical I have never seen before really sticks. I really was impressed yesterday. I hope the cast, crew and production team know how much the audience seemingly appreciated such great casting and such a well put together, rehearsed, fully staged concert. Saying that, I'd go and see anything Ramin is in. He brings such star quality.
