Do many of you listen to these type of shows? I occasionally listen to EP but i'm not the biggest fan,
I really enjoy listening to Songs From The Shows, with Alex Hall, on BBC TEES Radio. It's on the BBC IPlayer. She play's songs from a real mix of shows, not the usual stuff that people think of. Recently she played The Hired Man, The Rink, Best Little Whorehouse, Titanic, Sweet Smell of Success. Out Of The Blue (and they dont come much more obscure than that!)
Thankfully there's not annoying giggles in it. Highly reccommended.
Any suggestions for other similar radio shows to look for?

I recommended Alex Hall's show on the old board so it's good to hear there's at least one other listener out there! In comparison to EP, yes you do lose the giggles and occasional 'me me me' references but with Alex you gain disorganisation (with loading tracks) and an obsession with Liz Callaway! However it's a firm favourite on my iplayer list along with EP and Peter Corry's 30 minute 'Show Tunes' programme on Radio Ulster.
I'm only aware of these three on the iplayer but like tbfl, I'm also curious to know about any other good shows out there, radio or tinterweb.

There are always a few tracks not loading, playing the wrong one or them stopping them early for some reason. I find it quite endearing in an odd way. I never need to buy the Callaway 'Sibling Rivalry' albumn that for sure  |

Hi, we also listen to Alex Hall. Through listening to her show we discovered shows that we never would have thought about.
Another show is Neil Foster on BBC Radio York on a Sunday afternoon. He plays songs from the shows.

If you like interviews as well as songs then then the Inside The West End podcast has some interesting ones including Tim Minchin, Eva Noblezada, WestEnd Producer, Damian Humbley, Union Theatre's Sasha Regan and this weeks is the choreographer of Showboat Alistair David.

Just in case anyone is interested and perhaps missed out on the original broadcast back in December, BBC Radio 2 has a Rogers & Hammerstein themed Friday Night Is Music Night at 8pm on Friday.

Just came across a new one hour show - Ivan Jackson's "Showtime" - airing on Pirate Nation (Sunday 3pm) and Bristol-based BCFM (not sure when but they upload shows on their website shortly after broadcast - bcfmradio.com/showtime-ivan-jackson). Nice mix of show news, show tunes and interviews as far as I can tell from one listen! |

Reopening this thread as it was Alex Hall’s last Songs from the Shows this week. (Another victim of BBC local radio cuts?) Does anyone have any suggestions for current radio/internet shows that play a varied range of show tunes? I’ll miss her show…

I regularly listen to Magic at the Musicals. They play a range of songs from all genres of musical theatre, 24/7- though I'm not to sure what will happen at Christmas. Usually at Christmas, Magic Radio goes all Christmas; I guess we'll just wait and see.
But on Magic at the Musicals, every Saturday Lucie Jones does a show. Every Sunday morning Ruthie Hanshall hosts a show 'Behind the Stage Door'. Every Sunday evening they interview someone involved in a show- either staring in it, or involved somehow- either directing it, or choreographing it.
They also have an Artist is Residence series- a little while back it was Lizzie B, them Alfie Bow and currently Sam Tutty.

This is one of my bugbears!
We MT fans are poorly served by the BBC. We get 2 hours of EP a week and classical music fans have a whole channel. And I bet more people go to the theatre each week than to a classical concert.
I also get very cross when there are no MT proms as well. Surely out of the 70 odd there are, one or two with an MT focus could be included. . We also have some world class Mt performers and it would be good to celebrate them as well.
We pay our licence fee too.
I listen to Magic at the Musicals - it's not perfect but better than nothing!

Rhys Humphreys does 2 hours of "Musicals, Movies and More" on Sunshine Radio Online every Tuesday night from 10pm til midnight. He loves his theatre and is also a budding thespian. An enjoyable listen! |
