I wish they gave this to a director who can actually, you know, direct.

I wish they gave this to a director who can actually, you know, direct. Except that Pillowman and 2:22 sold a lot of tickets, in spite of the direction, or I'm sure his agent highlighted how his shows have sold a lot of tickets and attributed ticket sales to his direction.

I wish they gave this to a director who can actually, you know, direct. I’m not sure we need it as a stage show at all!

Of course his agent would...but his agent is incorrect

So far they have not announced the venue. They might be banking on this show becoming another GCSE/A-level requirement, like with To Kill a Mockingbird, A Streetcar Named Desire, or @sohoplace’s Medea, or almost every show at the National Theatre or Almeida.
The books were a hit in the 2010s and the YA dystopia themed novels were trendy back then (The Selection series by Kiera Cass, Divergent series by Veronica Roth, The Maze Runner series by James Dashner), along with the Twilight saga and 50 Shades (funnily the latter two book series were banned readings back when I was in high school). The film adaptations were hits too. Although the trend died likely because of the Trump era where it felt too close to home.

Is this a stage adaptation of the first book? Or a new story?

Slightly surprised at no news at all on this. Red Speedo programme again confirms a Jan 2025 opening.

Something this high profile with absolutely nothing to show and dead social media pages, with no wider advertising or theatre in sight.
I wonder if the creative team have been sidetracked by other projects. But I get the feeling this is going to disappear silently...

Odd that the shows own (pretty empty) website hasn't even been updated and still teases an 'Autumn 2024' opening.

Website's been updated... now just says "LONDON" with no date. Social media accounts still outdated.
I mean, it's an update... but why not London 2025 if they're willing to put it in a programme? Feels like a jumped gun, maybe the theatre they wanted just went.

Suspect it’s an IP issue with Lionsgate. I worked very briefly on the immersive Batman thing that never got off the ground and they had issues with Warner & DC (and also lacked investment leading to selling tickets without an actual venue or anything booked). This one seems to have more recognisable names attached, but yeah I’m now always suspicious when something this big is announced and has no information and years pass by…
