Initial reactions not very promising. Seems the book is leaving a sour taste. Not surprised. Terrible creative team behind this.

Is there a separate musical adaptation happening in Boston by Florence Welch? Yes, that is opening in May next year at A.R.T. titled "Gatsby" (the Papermill Playhouse musical is technically called "The Great Gatsby").

This production has serious money behind it and wants to beat Florence Welch’s Gatsby to Broadway. Even though the reviews are bad people still love it and want to see it get to Broadway with changes because of the leads.

Has there ever been a successful stage adaptation? Many have tried Apparently the script of the hit 1926 Broadway production has recently been rediscovered and is getting published next month. The adaptation, which got a much better reception than the actual novel did at first, took great liberties with the plot, added gangster characters, didn't have Caraway as narrator, and made Gatsby's dodgy background explicit from the start. This was long before it was regarded as a classic and Fitzgerald was in France so had no involvement with the production apart from some much needed royalty cheques. Maybe all the more recent attempts have been too faithful?

I saw this tonight and thought it was great. A good old fashioned big Broadway musical. A really strong score overall. Jeremy and Eva are brilliant and get some real show off moments.
Having read some very mixed reviews online, it was a very pleasant surprise. This one will be done by every amateur group in the country once it’s released.
