Produced in-house as a Storyhouse Original it runs from 3-18 May next year.
When I first saw it I assumed it was a new tour. They don’t do very many shows so I’m surprised to see this is one of them.

I saw this in the West End about five years ago and loved it. So excited it's getting a revival in my home city!
And exciting in general that the Storyhouse is doing its own musical revivals.

Saw this last night and as ever love Storyhouse productions choice to have the cast be the band / the band be the cast. It's a really cool merging in scenes like the boxing match where the actor in the role of Don is playing electric guitar throughout the fight. Also a lovely touch to have Lola begin 'I Hold Me In Your Heart' sitting alone playing a grand piano. This production also ends with quite a twist as in the final 10 minutes, the audience are asked to get out of their seats to travel to the Milan show - with ushers taking us down to theatre bar area where they had erected a catwalk where the final number was performed.

Really enjoyed this. It’s years since I saw it on tour, I’d forgotten how catchy sone of the songs are. The script’s a bit clunky, and the music is a bit too loud for the vocals at times, but overall that doesn’t matter as this was still great fun.
I like Storyhouse a lot as a venue. They only produce around half a dozen shows in-house a year, so after a couple of so-so new musicals it’s nice to see them stage a pretty solid revival. And I think some of the stronger of their productions in the past have been their revivals of The Wizard of Oz and A Little Night Music. With resources limited I can’t help wishing they’d do more like this, and a bit less of the open air theatre stuff in the park over the summer.
