Just noted that the top price tickets are an eye watering £325. Even the top price in the amphitheatre is £146. I know Wagner is expensive to put on but I think this is the first time an opera ticket has exceeded £300 at The Garden.
Anyway I’m still such a Wagner fan that even the fact it’s directed by Barrie Kosky hasn’t put me off booking.
Ballet prices are really creeping up too - Don Quixote is pretty expensive.

I think they've been pushing and pushing on prices since covid and they are still shifting performances. It feels to me like more performances, as well.
Standing Stalls for me. Can't do it otherwise. Can't wait!

When I saw the prices I was very thankful that the presence of Kosky had stopped me wanting to see it even before seeing them!
Don Q is at least cheaper than some of the other "tutu" ballets such as Sleeping Beauty & Cinderella last season.

It’s selling well - there’s not much left. I agree Dawnstar Kosky’s The Nose was dreadful and his Carmen horrendous but I really enjoyed his Agrippina so I’m giving him a chance and I hated the last Ring Cycle production. |

If The Nose had had an interval I would have left in it! Since then I've avoided Kosky. I didn't see the last Ring either. In fact I've never seen a live Ring & doubt I will unless I can find a time machine!

I was very impressed with Rheingold last year and will sign up for the full Cycle when its avaible. The orchestration is just enough and works in the smaller space for an authentic experience. Pleased to see my local Vue now has this as a opera live cinema showing for the Wednesday 20th September show.
Chance to see it at a fraction of the actual house prices and no worry if its a train strike day.
The roh site now has a picture on the booking page showing it's modern dress , really do want to see a traditional horned helmets and armour ring cycle version but will try this.
Two hours 20 mins with no interval is a bit easier in a Vue deluxe seat than a Theatre seat.

I really enjoyed the first night of this new production and, on the whole I liked Kosky’s direction. Scene 1 had no real hint of the wateriness of the Rhine but was effectively staged, Scene 2 was staged as picnic in the middle of a polo match (this was much more effective than it sounds.) Scene 3 was very effective with the gold production stored in buckets, although I feel the colour was a tad ‘off’ unfortunately sometimes resembling buckets of sick! Kosky staged the Tarnhelm transformations effectively - this can sometimes be toe-curlingly embrrassing. Unfortunately the end - the god’s entertaining Valhalla was a considerable let down; it all looked too showbiz and trivial, although it’s a tall order to match Wagner’s magnificent music at this point.
Musically it was very strong with many singers new to ROH and The Ring in general. The highlights for me were Christopher Purves as Alberich and Sean Panikkar as Loge. I found Christopher Maltman a little lacking in authority as Wotan particularly compared to previous singers in the role at ROH like Bryn Terfel and, especially, John Tomlinson.

I am not seeing this until later in the run but I was surprised when I checked out of curiosity that there were still about 70 seats available for last night's premiere. The run as a whole has not sold out with later performances still having over 100 seats for sale, mostly at the expensive end.

So..... just logged on to ROH to book next season And stalls standing is now a different more expensive tier  £25 to stand to see Gheorghiu in Boheme  |

It's the first time I've noticed that Todays Tix are offering seats for La Forza at a 35% discount. "From £147".
Whilst not cheap, that is a bargain offer. Has this been happening a lot?
We paid full price for opening night and it was pretty good, even though I didn't love any of the 3 main singers.
Mark Elder conducting Verdi is always special and the production is pretty fine too.
If they can't sell this out, then I assume more Carmen's and Traviata's are on their way.
