I know lots of posts, but I have lots of questions best movie theatres in LA? I am looking for historic movie theatres in Los Angeles area. That have historic buzz or have a high end seating section. Or both ! I want to see movies in them for a unique LA experience . So I can see both a unique theatre and a nice film.
ps. this is replacing cape town because its too dangerous :-)

I've lived in L.A. and downtown has some historic theatres to visit when opened to the public with special events. Actually all you have to do is Google the topic and your questions are answered. Pictures and opinions pop up.

I went to LA in October, if you want historic places then the obvious ones are the Chinese Theatre and El Capitan which are pretty much opposite each other on Hollywood Boulevard: the Chinese Theatre has the hand/footprints of loads of Hollywood stars outside it and is the main place for premieres while the El Capitan is owned by the Disney group and sticks to their films (I saw Hocus Pocus while I was and the Dolby Theatre where they hold the Oscars is also right there. The Egyptian is also nearby, which was the site of the first Hollywood premiere but it was closed for refurbishment when I was there but it might have reopened by now (Netflix now own it)
Further afield, the New Beverly is owned by Quentin Tarantino and has more culty kind of lineups : when I was there, for some reason that maybe only he knows, they were only showing Scooby Doo and Scream every night so I didn’t bother venturing there.

Marwood has defintely got the big cinemas right. Outside of Hollywood, the Los Angeles Conservancy does walking tours, and occasionally interior tours of the old movie palaces in Downtown Los Angeles. I have been inside the Los Angeles Theatre on Broadway - it's architecturally one of the most amazing spaces I've ever seen. It was used as a film location for the Hugh Jackman/Christian Bale film "The Prestige," when Jackman's character disappears off the stage then reappears on the balcony. You'd recognize different spaces in there, especially the grand staircase, from music videos and other film/television properties. www.laconservancy.org/locations/los-angeles-theatre
