www.bushtheatre.co.uk/event/a-playlist-for-the-revolution/A three-hander set during the 2019 Hong Kong protests. Saw one of the previews earlier this week and really enjoyed it. Could probably do with some tightening up, but I thought the show was really interesting and quite funny in parts. Great to see a large east asian audience too, something I haven't seen since Totoro.

Had my eye on this; PN tonight so reviews should be out tomorrow but risk of further train strikes makes new bookings risky.

Very much enjoyed this. Fantastic cast and the meeting and romance between the two young people is really sweet. If I were to describe it, it would just sound like it was sickeningly, sugar sweet but it isn't and it works so well. Very funny, manages to blend rom-com with a heavy political piece almost with ease.

Is there a new writing theatre operating on the level of success as The Bush is right now? Even if I don’t love the work, they always present plays which are accessible, crowd pleasing and wonderfully diverse. It is rather sad we’ll probably be losing Lynette Linton to The Royal Court soon.
This is another really lovely play from The Bush, it’s really sweet and the cast are a joy to watch. A little predictable but lots of laughs.

I saw and enjoyed this at the matinee on Saturday, though it's not the best production I've seen at the Bush recently and I was surprised to see that despite the good reviews, the 2 side blocks were quite sparsely populated. I had booked a "Count Me In" ticket as usual (unallocated until closer to the performance) and for the first time I received an email with a specific seat the day before, rather than on the day. Definitely worth seeing, for the play, performances and for me, to see work by a writer I hadn't come across.

Saw this yesterday evening and had some thoughts.
Good concept, enjoyable in parts but not executed especially well. Glad to have seen it but wouldn’t go again or necessarily recommend to others. The character of Jonathan was noticeably better developed than the other two, which is good is one sense but also creates a sense of imbalance more widely on stage.
Set was used well, lighting was impactful. They could have created more of a sense of urgency with the video backdrop throughout rather than waiting until the end.
It kind of fell into the trap that a lot of plays do for me. Quite a lot of pontification and not a lot of action or emotion. The other issue is I didn’t like any of the characters. Chloe is pretty much what Jonathan depicts her as at the end. She was played as a virtue signaller and I didn’t quite believe their chemistry - perhaps because they were almost never in the same room. But as I say, I didn’t dislike it either. I just was left feeling relatively indifferent. It was broadly interesting and good but a missed opportunity nonetheless.
Can’t help but draw comparisons with You Bury Me. Young people caught up in foreign political upheaval. Pretty much double the size of the company but the characters had more depth. From memory, the dialogue was sharper too.
Three stars.
