I understand the point about child actors, but there are younger adult actors that are better suited to playing younger ages than Daisy Waterstone.
I'm not up on the age limits for nightly performances, but it has been done with much younger actors and when they are suited it can work well. An exaample would be Eleanor Worthington-Cox in Tomcat at the Southwark Playhouse. Admittedly she was playing 12 rather than 7, but that worked really well and would have been far closer to what was needed here.
