I have a friend visiting London in November who is asking what shows she might need to book in advance. Are plays like Hamilton and Harry Potter still selling out? Cabaret and Moulin Rouge? Is there anything on the horizon that is expected to sell out? She's not expressed any preference as to the type of play... comedy, drama, musical.

Moulin Rouge sells very well, as does Cabaret. But you should still be able to get tickets much closer to the date. Prices don’t really change regardless of when you buy them.
Hamilton is easier now, they do some good dynamic pricing midweek and you can get Stalls/Dress for as little as £37.50.

Moulin Rouge sells very well, as does Cabaret. if you want the cheap tickets for Moulin Rouge or Cabaret you definitely should book in advance. But if you don't mind paying in the £70s+ for those shows, buying a few days before or on the day is fine |

Moulin Rouge hasn’t extended past September yet but I would expect it to based on how it’s been selling. They do engage in dynamic pricing on the day - for example, for today’s matinee you can currently get central seats in the 4th row of the Royal Circle for £55 (would normally be >£100).

Moulin Rouge have a ticket lottery which if you win, allows you to buy tickets for £25 the following week.

Thanks, everyone. I think she was hoping to leave planning until closer to the time, so I'll tell her that 'should' work, but if there's something she HAS to see (and if she's fussy about seat locations), she should book in advance.
