A group of women left my screening too - just as the Caleb stuff was ramping up.
I enjoyed the cinema screening and it still hit me like it did in person. I was very pleased that they were discreet filming the nudity, it's one thing seeing it in person in a theatre setting, but entirely different if it was on the big screen.
It was nice to see close ups of scenes I didn't get to see at the theatre, a little flick of the eyes or mouth can make a huge difference in someone's reactions.
I'm going to book another one tomorrow, I feel like I have to make the most of it while I can!

A group of women left my screening too - just as the Caleb stuff was ramping up. That's around the time I lost interest in the play, too. Not because I was oh so shocked, but because it was simply ridiculous just how much misery was piled on Jude. I didn't leave because I hoped that it would be going somewhere with all its misery, so when it didn't, I really regretted wasting more time on it than had been necessary.

There were still quite a few walkouts in the showing I went to. The themes and content have been so publicised over the last few months, you would have thought people knew what they were letting themselves in for and become accustomed to it by now.
Could be that some people were aware in advance and thought they would be fine, but actually experiencing it was a different matter. I've had that happen to me a few times with movies.

So glad I caught this one last time at the cinema today. Although I personally didn't like the way it was filmed. It felt more like a traditional film or TV series with lots of close ups. A bit too stylised for me. I think I prefer the way NT Live productions are presented where it almost feels like you are sat in the audience of the theatre. I said it earlier in this thread too but Luke Thompson really was a standout for me in this production. Can't wait to see more of him and what he does next. Did they ditch all the nudity then? Pretty much. Side on when had too and avoided all of Luke Thompsons. Sex scene, which I found quite a big, even visceral, scene in the play was very sanitised and focussed entirely on his hand. Although wide the close up of it you could see far more of Willams love for Jude on his face and his talk about his brother at the end was heartbreaking. Interesting for a character that is never depicted as anything but good to come across as so well rounded.

Well, I saw an encore screening tonight and thought it came across exceptionally well. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it was the best stage to screen capture I've ever seen. It just caught the emotion and the claustrophobia and psychodrama of the story so well. I saw it at the Pinter and loved it but I actually think it was more affecting tonight. People sobbing away at the end. The acting is just off the scale and the chemistry between James Norton and Luke Thompson was sensational. The music is still awesome and I'm still trying to identify the song at the start of Act 2 when they kiss (Wake Up by Arcade Fire comes later).

How strange that the Evening Standard Drama Awards should choose to completely ignore this. I get that the play and its subject matter might not have been to everyone's taste, and that many find Ivo Van Hove too...insert as appropriate, but to snub James Norton is just bizarre. Who are these panellists?!

Really interesting programme on BBC World Service the other day about Ivo van Hove. Well worth spending 27 minutes on. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct4yg5I had no idea his first name is pronounced the same as the glue!

The Greene Room is reopening at the Savoy Theatre? Definitely an interesting move, I loved the little space for A Little Life, but I wonder why it's coming back

It's a bar that's below stage that they created for ALL, I would guess because they have a play at the moment that they've decided to bring it back.
