I wonder how much they paid him not to run. He had no interest in the job, but spotted an opportunity to wangle some cash out of the Tory party. Laughing all the way back to the Carribbean. I'm still expecting Boris to appear on IAC.

If Sunak is a shoo in, I'm guessing he'll be able to form his Government by Tuesday or Wednesday?

102 is Trumpian amount Guardian reporting only 60 had publicly declared support which really does make the '102' seem positively Trumpian. The sense of relief I felt this morning reading he's backed out though, was immense. Let's hope Trump is taking notes (or suitably serving by the time his 'comeback' opportunity arises) I may come to regret saying this. I don't align with (m)any of their values but Rishi (for all his coaching and marketing teams efforts) seems to have his wits about him and a degree of respectable intelligence, so if he does land the gig today, this may not be the end of the world situation we were faced with this time last week.

It'll be interesting to see who gets appointed to prominent cabinet positions by the new leader. Truss and Johnson both surrounded themselves with fawning incompetents to try to make themselves look good. I'm not saying the party is brimming with talent, but there must be better options than Mogg, Dorries, Braverman, Patel,Coffey and Cleverly.

Must be one more competent person in the parliamentary party

Must be one more competent person in the parliamentary party I get the feeling May doesn’t want to be back into frontline politics and rightly so. He’s not competent but I imagine Hancock will end up back in Cabinet but probably at BEIS or Transport rather than Health again

I have a wee bit of a crush on Sunak, as much as my progressive self allows me to pine after a Conservative politician.

So what happens now, could a coronation happen today? Yeah happened already. Sunak speaks to the King and builds his cabinet now

She goes to the King first to officially resign. Within in minutes of her leaving, Sunak goes in and accepts the task of forming a new government.
So for a few moments, we have no PM.
Thankfully what happens at that point has never been tested by events!

Not necessarily today. Some schools of thought suggesting it will be made official tomorrow. Truss already done her bit? In her speech she said she'd 'spoken to the King' which I assume was a call to inform, but she has to go in person effectively to handover.

Hunt surely staying in the Treasury. Who do we think for other major offices? Raab and Javid be in the mix?

Truss played it for laughs mimicking Bozo by quoting a Roman philosopher in her parting speech (if that can really be called speech), then f***ing up trying to pronounce Seneca! Fulfilling expectations to the last second. (Fancy making your teenage daughters stand through such embarrassment. I hope they negotiated a better economic deal for themselves than Mumma seems capable of.)
