They could set it in Blackpool and the night club could be Funny Girls.

Please don't let this be in a Billy Elliot or Full Monty style.

This is a musical based a French play that was adapted into a French film. Jerry and Harvey retained the original setting - when they could easily have changed it
Song on the Sand is scored with accordion just to reinforce that sound world and setting.
Yes, Blackpool is a seaside town with a drag club but the whole vibe of the place is very far removed from the French Riviera. One setting has glorious weather, stunning scenery and glamour. The other has donkeys, sticks of rock and grit.
Some pieces can be relocated in time and/or place. This should be left alone.

Hoping we get some casting hints soon.

They should cast Hadley Fraser as Albin, but they won't and we're gonna end up with some weird interpretation

I’ve heard Le Gateau Chocolat as Albin… This was also the last rumour I heard. Also I think I recall that Tim Sheader and Harvey Fierstein were in some sort of discussion about Sheader’s desires for this production, which Fierstein was resisting. My memory isn’t 100% clear and it was a while ago so I don’t know what the situation is now.

Please don't let that be true. I really would like to see La Cage again but that casting would be a definite no for Me

Please just cast two bloody good actors in their late-40s or 50s (a la Hearn, Quilley, Allam etc and let them do their thing. It isn't necessary to always reinvent the wheel, directors please note.

Has anyone heard anything new on this? Reluctant to book if it's going to be a dodgy reinterpretation.

I suspect it’ll be some new production with some ridiculous casting, so I’m not parting with my pennies until cast is announced. It’s not too long now so they are leaving it a bit late

I have an uneasy feeling they’re going to make it “for the kids” and all of that original charm will be lost. It might actually be nice for “the kids” to see a form of drag that’s different to the fodder RPDR churns out every year.

I'm in London at the end of August and I've left one day show free especially for this, but like others have said, it will all depend on casting for me. It wouldn't surprise me if they go for a Drag Race alum.

It wouldn't surprise me if they go for a Drag Race alum. I’m racking my brain to think of any 40+ year old Drag Race Queen with the vocal range (or acting ability) needed for either of the two lead roles and I can’t think of a single one.

Vicky Vox and Jinkx Monsoon come to mind. VV did Little Shop of Horrors at the OAT. JM is younger but got plaudits for Chicago recently.

Jinkx is doing a comedy tour through August here in the States. I have NO DOUBT though, that she’ll be back in another show soon.

Nina West has been touring as Edna in Hairspray and would be another possible if the dates aligned

I love La Cage but this is all sounding like a car crash. I really don't know any of todays drag queens, my knowledge ends at Lily Savage, Danny La Rue and Masie Trolette. I want to see a non drag queen actor play a drag queen not a drag queen playing a drag queen.

Let's put it this way, when I last heard news on Monday, they didn't have an Albin and this goes into rehearsals...next week.
They are not looking for an actual drag queen to play Albin to my knowledge. But at the moment it sounds like they might take anyone!

Why in earth would you even decide to stage this show without having an Albin already lined up?

It sounds like they had one and it fell through from what I understand.
