Gio went out early because he wasn't invested in the partnership for pretty obvious reasons

People say this every year and there's not the slightest shred of evidence that the pro brings in the votes to any significant extent. Anton went out early plenty of times, Giovanni went out early this series, Oti with Ugo etc. Johannes in a different league. Like I say, not a shred of evidence.

Ugo went out after his back problems and his really bad Rumba. Nothing Oti could do would overcome that.

I don't vote but I like Ellie and I'm a bit mystified why she gets significantly lower marks from the judges than the other celebs. I can see people voting for her for that reason. Because she really isn’t on the level of the rest. I’m annoyed that we lost Tyler over her tonight. Mollys days are definitely numbered after being in the dance off for the 4th time, I just think her routines are a tad on the boring side.

Two thoughts
Tess' dress was the colour of a hummingbird
(Not that he doesn't deceiver the accolades) but Sam Ryder is a hippie.

Ellie T and Fleur had to dance off. The judges saved Fleur. Ellie T was eliminated
It was Ellie's time. Johannes can only take you so far...

Molly and Kym had to dance off. The judges saved Molly (Craig, Motsi and Shirley saved Molly. Anton saved Kym). Kym was eliminated

So Grandma had to go. Pity. I personally don't understand how Will is still there. The results are sometimes so odd that conspiracy theories are bound to lurk.

Very late this week
Will and Fleur had to dance off. The judges saved Fleur (Anton saved Will. All other Judges saved Fleur). Will was eliminated
I do find this a rather engineered result. Yes, they all are to some extent.
But the critique of Will's paso was harsher than the other two of the night even though the others displayed faults that were not mentioned. Indeed Molly showed zero Spanish flair but that was ignored.
They were just playing into the 'Survivor' narrative.
We have two finalists who have been in the dance off 8 times between them. That is just ludicrous.
Hamza is going to win unless he suffers an injury.
It is time for a big judging shake up. Shirley and Motsi need to be replaced by people who can stay in the seats and judge the dancing not the narrative.
I know it is a popularity contest (which is why being in the bottom two 4 timed should have seen you go home long ago)
But with the lack of critical engagement by half the panel, we are seeing perverse outcomes.
Craig is usually more accurate with his critique. Anton brings the experience of being the longest serving pro. But Shirley and Motsi just bring gush.

Yeah that looked pretty inevitable based on the leaderboard.
This looks like a straight fight between Helen and Hamza right now with the latter in pole position.
The frustrating thing is if the Shirley from last night showed up every week the mark inflation would be less and she'd actually serve a purpose, but after weeks of handing out 10s like sweets it takes either a lot of nerve or a lack of self awareness to suddenly say - I can't just hand out 10s for nothing can I! In her first series it did feel like Shirley wasn't going to be as generous as Len but that stopped quickly apart from the rare week like this one.
No wonder some of them, particularly Will, looked a bit shell shocked to receive criticism from someone other than Craig after weeks of 9s and 10s and you're amazing.

I wonder if the combination of Will's apparent reaction to being critiqued, and the choice of style for the Couple's Choice lost him votes?

Previously, I would say Will came across as if well-cast in the dancing role (i.e. he inhabited the character in a non-cringey way) whereas both his cape work and his couples' choice were a tiny bit embarrassing. I wonder if they'd gone for a more musical theatre dance rather than street dance if they would have done better.

Doing a couple's choice in the semifinal was a bad idea, they might have gotten away with that nonsense a few weeks earlier, but not this late in the competition. That and a poor Paso meant this was the right outcome. If Gorka, Vito or Carlos can come up with a really spectacular showdance for their partners that absolutely wows the audience they might just steal it, but it's really Hamza and Jowita's glitterball to lose now.

A few thoughts.
Firstly, what the hell was Tess wearing? That blue cross the boob thing?
Kudos to both Carlos and Vito- each in their first appearance on Strictly to have gotten their partners to the final- Vito in particular for overcoming the language issue.
Finally, Hamza to win!

You don’t get much better in the business than Shirley for being able to critique Latin and ballroom, I would hate to lose her as a judge, but she needs to pull it back slightly. She offers really constructive feedback but she does also over score.
I’ve always felt that Anton doesn’t have the same level of knowledge, now I know that’s a bit strange to say as he is a pro dancer, but how many times has he said “well I liked it. 10!” When Craig has given an 8 and pointed out all the things they did wrong. He’s a good entertaining judge but I feel like he doesn’t know what he’s looking at some times. Last year you could see him struggling through his comments sometimes when he would just end yo making silly noises instead of actually commenting on the dance.
Anyway, I think it was the right call tonight, the couples choice was a bit cringe and awkward for me, they needed like 20% more energy and speed to it. I think we have the best dancers in the final.
I’ve voted for Molly every week, giving minimum 2 votes and usually 1 for Hamza, but now it’s the final I think I’ve gotta give all my votes to Hamza.

Of the four finalists, three of the pros are in their first season. Only Gorka has done this before.
Not sure what that says about this season though!
Looking at the track records of the finalists, Fleur and Molly have both been in the dance off FOUR times. That has never happened before.
Hamza and Helen have never been in the dance off. Neither had Will until last night.
I would love to see the actual voting figures. Perhaps it is time for the dance off to be abolished and for the lowest combined scoring partnership being eliminated each week.

Seems that if you do well one year you get paired with the least potential the next. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Carlos and Vito have the same next year. I can bet that Gio has said he will only stay on if he’s paired well. I think we will see a bigger group of pros leave this year too, maybe Cameron will finally get a shot? 😅

I feel bad for Cameron having been overlooked for two seasons now. Neil has been badly treated over a number of years.
Vito is a real asset. Carlos suffers from Kevin Clifton syndrome - he is too intent on making himself look good rather than keeping focus on his partner.
I hope Gio stays for another year or two. He is really the best at showcasing his partner. And he was badly let down by being paired with Richie. That was just so uncomfortable to watch

I would have thought Katya or Karen would be the ones to leave as they've been there for a while.
Weirdly this is the first time in four years they've had no withdrawals.

Tony was essentially a withdrawal
An unusually timed one. But he wasn't eliminated by the judges
