Having seen Pretty Woman last night, it is absolutely not the direction where the show fails. The score and script are what stop it being good. No matter how strong the cast is, they cannot prevent the music from being bland.
24 hours on, I cannot recall a single tune. But I can remember some of the production.

I believe it’s Vanessa Williams as Miranda with one of the Six girls as Emily

I can’t see Wilhelmina Slater enjoying Plymouth.

If they keep it like it was in Chicago where Miranda only REALLY sings at the end of the show than I could see Williams being good in this. But if they change it to make Miranda actually sing a lot more than God help her - her voice hasn’t been in great shape in quite a while, now.

That hasn't stopped Bernadette Peters from Sondheim's Old Friends and I can't imagine Vanessa Williams' voice is as bad as that.

She was in pretty good voice at the very short lived City of Angels...
And honestly, I'd be thrilled with that casting - which former Six girl is VERY important though.

I think the less Miranda sings the better - her character is meant to be aloof and above it all....not a personality that lends itself to a showtune....a song at the end when her character unravels a bit would be perfect.

I’m pretty sure Amy Di Bartolomeo has been cast as Emily, previously Aragon in six!

Well Pretty Woman's direction is the least of its problems. You can't blame Mr Mitchell for the weak script and/or score. But if he was a better director- he would have made the writers rewrite bad songs and script

But if he was a better director- he would have made the writers rewrite bad songs and script Harold Prince also had a number of flops/not-so-amazing shows under his belt with less than stellar songs and script. So that makes him a bad director as well?
