The Devil Wears Prada - TR Plymouth / Dominion

I saw AIDA on Broadway in 2000 with mate.

We knew nothing about it but it was our last night so bought a ticket on a whim of the strength of the names Elton John and Time Rice and saw the original cast..

Bloody brilliant! If fact, one of the highlights of my trip! I never forgot it!

I have the cast recording on CD, the brochure and the hardback book.

Saw this last week at the Dominion, with a group. They are giving huge reductions for groups. I paid £45 for row V - not good! The band was very loud so most of the words cannot be heard. I would not recommend sitting in the rear half of the Stalls, for any price. You feel a great distance from the stage in this theatre and although a spectacular show, it does have some intimate scenes we would like to have seen and heard more clearly.
As for the musical itself, it’s not a patch on Elton John’s Tammy, but the script seemed to amuse those sitting nearer the stage where most of the laughter came from. The choreography is mainly strutting with attitude which soon loses its attraction and amusement value. The performances are good and Williams will certainly please fans. Money has obviously been spent but will fans paying the very high prices think it’s worth it? I often see shows twice but would not want to see to this one again.
It gets 3 stars from me, like MJ and WAISS. Just watch the film again. 

I’m pretty sure Vanessa said on Graham Norton she’s here for a year with it, but unsure if that’s from London’s opening or Plymouth’s.

I agree it could be a much harder sell with a MT name than a well known TV name like her.

When I think of Lion King the last thing I think of is Elton.

What I do think of how it’s been clogging up the Lyceum for far too long and should be given a long rest.

True, but any show being sold out for 3+ weeks ahead in a 2000 seat venue is good going these days. Especially a theatre that hasnt had a hit in years. Not sure why you need to dismiss that.

I think its the title probably more than Vanessa, the movie is pretty iconic. Many lines and moments are quoted daily and in memes/gifs etc. But casting Vanessa is a great move as Ugly Betty definitely had a decent fan base that would cross over with DWP so it could be the perfect combination.

There are TodayTix posters on the tube showing £30 rush tickets for Prada, just checked the app and it's not the case, but maybe something happening soon?

How easy will Rush tickets be? Hope they meet demand and don't just release 3 or something ridiculous. It's a big place..!

Yes correct. There is usually a contract made with TodayTix with a minimum number of rush seats that have to be given for every performance (things like Press Night, closing night etc can be left out) and then the Box Office will add extras to the allocation based on how much there is to shift.

It is sold out for now, but plenty of tickets in January if you can wait. This will need good reviews to move tickets in the graveyard months.
