I mean the film isn't really a classic, and is nearly 20 years old, I doubt this will sell unless big names are involved? If this movie isn't a classic, I am not sure what is? It would need to be a decade or two old in order to earn that status so yes, classic suits it to a T. HAMILTON, WICKED, BOOK OF MORMON and others have not been based on classic movies, nor did they open with 'big names'. Didn't hurt them one bit.

It was either at the 2008 or 2009 international convention for fashionistas, gays, allies, and other enlightened creative professionals that the movie was first awarded classic status. I also note that this status was unanimously affirmed as an action item on The Big Gay Agendaâ„¢ in 2012 and each subsequent year.

Those three shows came over with a huge amount of hype behind them, having been massive hits on Broadway. TDWP wont have anything like that to back it up.

Well, being based on a very popular blockbuster film with a score by a legendary composer as well as appealing to the general ticket buying public and not just hardcore theatregoers isn't going to hurt it's chances. Remember that it only bombed artistically in Chicago. Getting buts in seats was not an issue. It sold quite well at the Nederlander Chicago which has 2,253 seats. The Dominion has 2,069. Sure it has to run a LOT longer to make a profit but if an artistic laughing stock like We Will Rock You can hang for a decade in this barn, I wouldn't be too worried about Devil's chances.

They’ve certainly gone big, and must have a huge amount of confidence in the rewritten version. Furnish is quite canny when it comes to taming his husbands flights of fancy, so I’d be pretty confident that this is a winner. (Unless of course they’ve been offered the theatre for pence and its being propped up by the Hillsong contract again).

The Dominion's issue has always been the capacity, I think they should find a way to reduce its capacity to say 1600-1700 seats, maybe a Drury Lane style renovation is needed. I don’t think they can reduce capacity due to their Sunday leases to Hillsong church. They fill the theatre over multiple times on a Sunday. Any reduction in capacity and Hillsong would probably move elsewhere (and it’s a massive revenue stream).

When Starlight was at the AV, the rear half of the Circle was curtained off. Well, actually was more like a temporary flimsy wood wall. There were gaps where you could see through and it always looked somewhat derelict and slightly creepy! Not sure if that was the case for the entire run but certainly was 90's onwards. Still, the Dominion HAS sustained open ended musical runs in the past and managed to sell out at weekends/holidays etc. So it might not be a huge stretch to put Devil in here.

The model in there recently seems to be: pack 'em in cheap at weekends/holidays then just accept it will be fairly empty through the week. I guess the books must balance or people would stop using it!

Any updates on casting for DWP?
Hannah Waddingham was just over here in the US doing press for her new animated series and they asked her about returning to theatre. She said she has had some wonderful offers both on Broadway and in the West End but isn't keen on returning until her daughter is older.

I’m still holding out hope that Patti LuPone makes good on her saying she wants to do another West End show.

It seems a real missed opportunity not to have announced her at the launch.

They should film a fashion show announcing the cast as they walk a runway, with Miranda at the end.

They should film a fashion show announcing the cast as they walk a runway, with Miranda at the end. Just walking on and saying ‘……..that’s all’ and walking off again.

They should film a fashion show announcing the cast as they walk a runway, with Miranda at the end. They did this when they announced Zoolander 2, it was great! (although the actual film isn't, from what I've heard)

It’s Hannah Waddingham.. it’s no secret! If I'm not mistaken HW said something about spending Christmas at Elton John's house. So that's a sign.
