By any chance, has anyone on this forum seen this Berlin musical at the Theater des Westens? Apparently it's based on a German miniseries on Netflix.
If so, what did you think and is there enough music in it that someone with very limited German could still enjoy it as long as they have a general knowledge of the plot?

First of all: Please be patient with my English. I am not a native speaker - so there will be a few mistakes... ;0)
When I searched for a topic for this show on this forum, I didn't expected to find any topic. But I was wrong.
The reason why I looked for any topic: The show was filmed in Berlin in 2021 - and surprisingly today released as a free stream. It's on the website of the public channel, which produced the mini TV series, the show is based on. I guess it is not possible to stream the show if you're not in Germany - but maybe I am wrong again. So just Google for "ZDF MEDIATHEK KU'DAMM 56 MUSICAL".
I keep fingers crossed, cause it is a great show.
As you can imagine, I am absolutely delighted by the show. Seen it twice live and will be going again in the end of this month and when the show will close in Feb 2023.
Beside the music - which I really like - the show is played by such a talented and energetic cast. Can't remember a show here in Germany with such an energy in the last years. And it is really a kind of Ensemble show. So even a lot of the main characters have to do Ensemble numbers
If you want to I will tell you more about the show/story. Especially cause the book is a bit hard to understand - cause they tried to put every storyline of every character from the mini serie (3x90min.) into 2.5 h show. And while the serie was really a bombastic revival of Berlins 50 era, the set of the show is much simpler and you need more imagination...
Don't hesitate to ask for more information - AND DO NOT HESITATE TO SEE IT LIFE. Even if you're not really good into the German language...

Congratulations on finding the thread, coricolonzo . Searching for anything on TheatreBoard is often a hit or miss affair, so something has gone right this time. There will be a full inquiry and steps will be taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.  Absolutely no need to apologise for your English. It's much better than many of us who live in Yorkshire! |

Just a quick shorts notice: Last Monday the German Musical Awards were given. Winners can only be shows produced in Germany, Austria, Switzerland (that's what I do know about it - if anyone knows it better: Please correct me).
Ku'damm 56 got 4 awards: Best music score, best supporting actor, best main (?) actress and at least best show!
Come to Berlin till Feb to see it live!
