The Play That Goes Wrong

Phew! That's a relief. Having already had a tube strike for Showstopper, & a threatened one cancelled for TCAABR cast change, I'm beginning to think the transport unions have something against improv groups!

That's interesting - I saw them the other way around (TPTGW before Comedy) and loved the first but not the latter!  Seems to be that for some of us this kind of humour works wonderfully the first time when it's so unexpected, but becomes a bit predictable after that, as I had the same complaints about Comedy (jokes going on for way too long) as you mentioned about this one.  

It's probably also why I have no real desire to make a repeat visit to either show - they strike me as the sort of plays that could never be as funny second time around.

It was so lovely seeing the original cast again. They are perfection. In one way it was almost as if it was 2014 again & the last 3 years hadn't happened but at the same time I was viewing it through a prism of all that Mischief Theatre have achieved in the last 3 years.

If anyone other than me cares (probably not), there was one blocking change whereby Charlie made her first entrance through the window, which gave a nice symmetry to when she's dragged out of the window later. One definitely changed line, no "Thank you Charles" & there may have been another but it's so hard to hear with all the audience laughter.

Gosh, that was good last night. I hadn't seen The Play That Goes Wrong since (and I've checked) 15 May 2013 at the Trafalgar Studios. I've sent numerous people to see it, I've bought tickets as presents for people to see it. I just didn't think a second viewing could top that first night.

I mean, yeah, I know whodunnit, obvs. It's now on two levels, the comedy is so brilliantly executed, it's just the best fun. Had an old codger next to me who was roaring with laughter at the slapstick, my youngster next to me roaring with laughter at everything (he couldn't not do a standing o at curtain call). This is a show for all ages. As I stood outside in the interval (sobbing because 20 minutes before the show my cousin telephoned to tell me my favourite uncle had died) "Trevor" ran past, up and down the street shouting for Winston .. even asking the bus driver opposite if he'd seen his dog ....

Back on Saturday - wasn't sure if that would be too much Goes Wrong, but so glad I've booked now. Want to see these guys/gals off to Broadway with a bang.

It's a "goes wrong" classic, innit.  Dammit.

(Edited to add, I girl-fan staged-doored and got my poster signed by all of the cast as they came out, wonder what they thought of the red eyed old bird ... Jonathan Sayer tapped me on the shoulder and said "would you like me to sign that too" ... duh).

Going to see this tonight - very much excited. Saw the original cast in Bank Robbery and my sides are still hurting all these weeks later!

You didn't look obviously red-eyed so I very much doubt they'd notice anything was wrong. It was certainly less obvious than when I, thinking no-one was around, was having a little weep just down the road from the Criterion stage door between shows on TCAABR's cast change day only to suddenly realise Henry Lewis was standing next to me asking if I was okay!

Saw this on Wednesday for the first time and loved it. They were filming the performance too, so assume maybe a digital release is on the cards?

Maybe the filming was for Broadway promo?

Sorry to double post but Bryony Corrigan's just tweeted that she's making her debut as Annie tonight. So thrilled I get to see her!

Post-show addition: Bryony did really well in her Annie debut, especially considering she told me afterwards that she'd had an hour's rehearsal earlier today & that was it! Nothing Went Wrong that shouldn't have!



Very enthusiastic audience tonight. It was rather contagious: for the first time for a while I felt slightly giddy with laughing by the end. I swear the main reason the show's running about 10 minutes longer is the amount of time the audience spent applauding Dave Hearn's every grin!

Loved this tonight. Took my sons Aussie girlfriend who has seen PPGW and CAABR, she loved this, said she liked this more than the other two. It's great going with someone who hasn't seen it before, she screamed as part of the set "goes wrong". The cast are superb, it's so much fun. I hope this does well on Broadway. It really deserves to. Coming out of Joe Allens at 11.30 I spotted the cast in the bar opposite letting down their hair.

Had an annoying attention seeking laugher in the front row, obviously a big fan as wearing a home made mischief t shirt, with a bag of props. If this is you, dear reader, its so obviously done to get cast attention, and it didn't work, it was just irritating. 

Dawnstar, so pleased your ticket "goes wrong" was sorted!  And lovely to see you again.
