Glad you got your ticket mishap sorted, Dawnstar. I was at the matinee on Saturday; loved it as much as I did the first time!
Either my memory is really bad though, or various bits are new. For instance, was there always audience participation in the ledger scene?
I think there were a couple of moments where things did go a little bit wrong, too, which is always fun...
They were doing a charity collection afterwards and lovely Henry Shields was on my door, but as ever, my shyness got the better of me so I just ended up shoving my money in the bucket rather than wishing them all the best for Broadway. For a moment there, I did think: 'what would Ryan do?' But then I decided I didn't really want to get arrested. ;-)

There's always been the potential for it to happen but sometimes the audience call out & sometimes they don't. What else did you think was new? I only spotted 2 small changes this past week compared to how the show was running in January. |

It ran in my mind that Dave Hearn always missed the sofa at one point early on when he sat down, but that didn't happen this time.
And I didn't remember there being so much stuff going on after the set collapsed at the end; I thought the set was the very last thing to go.
But bear in mind I haven't seen the show since it first transferred to the Duchess, and my clearest memories of it are when they were performing in the tiny Trafalgar Studios...so it may well be my memory lying to me!
There was an irritating bloke at the back who kept shouting out. It was OK for the ledger scene because Shields ran with it and had a Peter Pan style 'this is not a pantomime' exchange with the audience. But the bloke did it again with the sound effect of the clock striking midnight and it totally ruined the joke. Combined with irritating loud laugh woman sitting quite close to me, it's fair to say I was contemplating committing another murder or two at Haversham Manor myself...
'Trevor' was looking for the dog in the ladies' at the matinee. Or rather getting women to squeeze the dog toy (not a euphemism) to call him, 'because I'm not allowed in here any more'. :-)

In fact I can't rememeber if any Maxes other than him have done it. I rather envy you that. Having seen the 2 act version so many times I find it difficult to remember much about what it was like at Trafalgar Studios. Trevor nearly going into the Ladies, and in fact Trevor interval action full stop, is something that only Rob Falconer does. Subsequent Trevors haven't done anything in the interval. It was good to see it briefly back! Right at the start of the Lodon run there was more interval action - I remember seeing Henry L & Henry S arguing over whether Robert was allowed to come & get an interval ice cream! - but that went very early on. (If I'm boring pepole then someone tell me to shut up but I like the minutiae when I repeat-view shows!) |

A lot of the interval dog-hunting seemed to be taking place in the dress circle and I was mid-stalls, so I didn't see much of what went on but I heard the laughter!
Another thing that struck me was when they are stretching to answer the telephone, Max hooks his foot around the receiver and, when I've seen him do it in the past, he always somehow managed to flick it up right into his hand. This time it went pretty wide and the lady who had gone up onstage for the pre-show segment gamely trooped up again and handed him the receiver. But this is just a 'whatever happens from night to night' occurrence, I'm guessing.
One of the props on the wall also seemed to roll much further than the cast expected - Henry S made a grab for it but too late. Nancy I think thought he wasn't going to grab it at all, so she lunged for it at the same time, and ended up skidding into his legs as the prop continued serenely on its way. Someone in the front row grabbed it. FOH went over and spoke to them shortly afterwards, so I guess they were just doing a quick health and safety check in case anyone broke a fingernail...

Watch this, people, it's brilliant! Cornley holds a Broadway press conference! (The first few minutes can be skipped but once it get's going it's great.) |

What role is Jonathan in this ? I saw the tour tonight and he is played by a black man called Jason Callender but he certainly wasn't in the show I just saw. I can't work out from which of the understudies may have played this tonight, is it a character that can be cut or am I being extremely naive not remember a main characters name ?

Thanks Sophie that make sense. He was great so no complaints from me! I loved this show a lot, it wasn't as completely on the floor rolling about laughing stuff as some people make it out to be but my sides were still splitting for the majority. Some of the mishaps were hilarious and some of them I didn't expect, especially the one with the balcony/'2nd floor'. 4.5/5 for sure. I expected the running joke with the missing dog to have more of an influence with jokes later on, I felt as if it was building upto something |

Were you expectiong something more? On the original tour they had a dog (a different one at each venue I believe) come on for the curtain call but that got cut for the West End. First Broadway preview tonight. I hope it goes well/badly (depending on point of view!) for them! Moderators, do we need to have a Broadway thread or can any comments continue on here, given it's the same cast as London? |

Watching the cast twitter feed, sounds like the dress rehearsal (in front of School of Rock and Cats Broadway casts) went brilliantly. Broken legs to them all xxxxxxxxxx

As far as I know, and I did actually have a conversation about it with Rob Falconer the other week, the first tour was the only time a dog has appeared. That is in the UK, no idea what the various overseas productions do. Talking of overseas productions, my aunt, currently holidaying in Australia, saw the Australian TPTGW production in Melbourne the night before last & very much enjoyed it. Having taken her to see TCAABR at Christmas, I'm pleased to see that my Mischief Theatre prosetheltising is working! |
