I've never seen Andrew Lincoln on stage, can anyone vouch for him? Seems a shame from a purely wish-granting perspective not to go for some theatre megastar, given there must be plenty with availability... Going for a theatre megastar would be a mistake in my view given that it's being streamed, picking someone whose reputation has been made on-screen in a recent hit series seems sensible from a marketing perspective. So only tv experienced actors need apply?

So only tv experienced actors need apply? I said “screen”. Amadeus was a massive hit in New York with McKellen winning a Tony award as Salieri. They cast the film immediately afterwards and the rumour is McKellen auditioned for it but was turned down as his audition was too “stagey” for the screen. There is something to that. Some actors (not all) are suited to one or the other but not both.

Has anyone ever got this to work through their tv via connecting their phone/tablet etc since I see there isn't a tv zoom app? Was going to buy for my sister but crowded round a laptop screen is not the same appeal as the tv, i was thinking they could access it through their tv but see on old vic guidance it isn't that simple.

Connect the laptop to your telly with a HDMI cable

Depending on age of device you can cast it/screenshare or link hdmi from tv to whatever output you have on laptop/device (hdmi, via). If you give some details can maybe help you - short answer is, yes. I've watched a couple of OV In Camera cast from phone to 55inch screen with excellent quality.

Thank you for response. My knowledge is limited, but they have fairly new iphones amongst them and the tv is a year or two old, a smart tv, are also new laptops in house if needed though not sure about hdmi lead, i suspect my sister like me is probably not use which that might be. I have suggested we should dummy run doing a zoom and then linking up. They do have teens in the house and toddlers so one of them must know how it all works!?

Definitely - for a dummy run, should be straightforward. Look for screensharing options on TV - then cast via network or Bluetooth. If doing via mobile use yourrouter rather than mobile data.

Do you have any sort of modern Blu Ray player or Cable or Satellite box connected to the Smart TV? They all use HDMI cables. If so, the easy thing to do is unplug the lead that goes into the player/cable/satellite box, and plug it into a laptop instead. You'll soon see which socket it fits into on the laptop - it's specific shape, so you can't get it wrong. Then when you're done, unplug from laptop and plug it back into what it came out of.

They might have one that connects to the dvd player? I remember my sister saying she had to buy a cable as the old one didn't fit the smart tv. I admit I have no idea how to 'cast'.
We've got a month plus to sort it, I may need to get the kids on the case as I suspect otherwise they'll wait till a minute before!

I see that in addition to the Old Vic and The Bridge, Jermyn Street are also doing a version of A Christmas Carol - on-line - their drawing card is it’s got Brian Blessed in it - unspecified if this is in person or via a recording.

Did anybody else watch this glorious "In Camera" production tonight? Such a complex piece to bring to life as live theatre on camera, but they pulled it off really well. Andrew Lincoln is nothing short of a revelation as Scrooge, and I LOVED the previous versions (particularly Paterson Joseph's interpretation). Lincoln brings a new dimension to Scrooge - a very realistic portrayal, less gnarly and more vulnerable.
Buy a ticket and settle down with a mince pie and a glass of something nice, and melt away into two hours of bliss via the Old Vic in Camera.

I watched it tonight and having seen and loved Paterson Joseph as Scrooge back in January, I thought AL’s portrayal of Scrooge worked really well. The only downside was that my box of mince pies didn’t last the full performance! A wonderful show and a lovely way to spend an evening at home.

Totally agree - you can have my two boxes, as I didn't make much headway (shamefully)! They had 4000 paying ticket holders who joined via Zoom. Possibly the future?!

I wondered if the OV would do a PPV in the future. It seems a great source of income for the theatre and allows people to get to see the show if they are unable to be there in person.

Starting to think I should have bought a ticket for myself rather than gifting it to my sister's family who I wouldn't put it past them to just 'forget' to tune in.

For heaven's sake, buy one (if you are able to). It's a wonderful experience. Andrew Lincoln is phenomenal (well he was on Saturday anyway). Seriously, it'll make you laugh, cry and remember how joyous live theatre can be.

Have had a look but they are quite out of my price range now unfortunately. Same. For all the shows when Im not working the cheapest option is £40. For a webstream, is a bit crazy. I get it's a live production stream and it's their only source of income for the production but this is way beyond my limits currently, and possibly the most expensive live stream I've seen offered this year. I'll tune into Storyhouse's production of the same show on Sunday for a much more respectable £16.

Old Vic is offering tickets aligned to their seating price structure. It's worth the money, in my view.

Watched on Saturday night all settled in with a cider and mince pies. Having seen it at least twice on each of the last 3 runs I wish the audience got to see more of the invisible doors (I don't believe the staging was set as previously with the runways up and through the theatre). I missed the dancing so much! But it was an excellent watch.
I posted something on facebook and a friend in Northampton replied that her daughters primary school had bought a ticket for each class to watch it.

I watched the live stream of this last night - what a lovely Christmas treat! (Fruity tea and cookies were my snacks of choice). The music, carols, bell ringing, lighting, acting - everything really, it was all great. What a brilliant performance from Andrew Lincoln as well, I may have had a few tears at one point. Only slight feedback was I felt that when he addressed the camera with the charity speech it slightly took me out of the play and feel it may have been better suited to the very end but appreciate it was well meaning. I read about Jack Thorne and his wife matching the charity donations, which is just lovely. Highly recommend anyone who can to catch this before it ends. Can only imagine the magic that would be added to being in the theatre in person.

Really hope tier 4 doesn’t effect this for next week, I’m all booked in for Monday.
If for any reason it can go ahead live, is there a previous performance recorded as back-up??
