Can we not boil it down even further to the fact that over half of the story is set in school! Nicole is old enough to play Morrible!! #teamleamichelle I agree! What about Anna Kendrick as Glinda? Would she be able to pull of the high notes though? I think Lea and Anna together would really pull people in though. Anna Kenrick is completely te wrong type for that role and her voice is by no means good enough for either of the roles.

Nothing against Nicole or Anna or Lea, but I don't think Elphaba or Glinda are meant to be mature students somehow...

Don't see her as Glinda at all. I suppose she is but I just thought she could pull off the humour of Glinda. Coming to think of it though I don't think she'd look too great blonde...

I stand by Kristen Bell for Glinda - I didn't have any complaints about her vocals in Frozen and she's a good comedy actress. Whether she could actually hit the notes for Glinda I don't know.
As much as I'd love Sam Barks to get this, I think they'll want someone who's more well known in America - Lea Michele certainly fits that bill, so she seems like the obvious choice to me, but of course that means nothing in film casting.

Nicole is too pretty, as are many of the suggested actresses. She's supposed to be an outcast because of her looks, not some glamourpuss who just happens to be green.
As for doe-eyed button-nosed Sam Barks. Just no.

I would disagree entirely - in the musical, it's made very clear that her green skin is the reason she is cast aside and mocked by her peers. She sees how superficial they are and longs for someone (The Wizard) who will look beyond her green skin and see what more there is to her.

It won't happen, but I wish they would cast Glinda and Elphaba purely on talent. They can stunt cast the sh*t out of all of the supporting roles I have less issue with that, but we need raw talent in the leading ladies or we'll end up with another Les Mis movie.

I don't want to start an argument now but Idina Menzel, Rachel Tucker and Emma Hatton are all very pretty, just to name a few, and they managed to make a believable Elphaba!

Idina's looks were perfect for it because despite being very attractive in real life, in make up they managed to make her look like she could actually be "wicked". Tucker, Ellis, Hatton... pretty bland looks-wise.

I just want them to make a credible movie and show the story & songs for what they are! Casting an actress and then changing the key of the music is stupid!
Cast the witches with a strong music theatre background and then cast names as the rest! Meryl as Morrible will sell the tickets.
The fact that Stephen Schwartz and Marc Platt are making it would make me hope they won't stunt cast the leads!

They didn't film Les Mis in one take... Live or not, she'd still get to redo it as many times as she needed. Well yes, but they still need her to hit the notes without being able to auto tune her! I watched her on some variety TV programme and she screamed the hell of out Memory! Not a fan. Hating this news! Something sang live on a movie set will never sound as good as something sang on stage or in a stusio, unless they spend a lot on getting the acoustics live. Nicole sang Memory very well in the actual show. You should also check out her renditions of POTO and DCFM Argentina.

People talk of Elphaba as if she's Lady Macbeth. Is it an exciting role for a young(ish) performer? Hells, yes. But let's not make it what it isn't. Realistically, very few famous or semi-famous (Nicole being in the second category) can sing, kind of act, and not be ridiculous pulling this off. I think Nicole could be a fine contender. I do not expect an A-lister to tackle this, they're simply not made for this kind of role. Singing wise, she will be fine. The keys will probably be lowered (not because she can't hit them, but because it's a film and they tend to do that anyways to make the songs relevantly similar to our speaking pitch)..Anyway, whatever. Nicole could be as good as it gets, TBH. No one is getting a Kerry Ellis or a Wellemijn or a Rachel Tucker to star in this. They'll be happy if they star as citizens of Oz. 100% agree with this!

Also not a fan of Lea.

As for doe-eyed button-nosed Sam Barks. Just no. Too pretty for Elphaba. Lots of beautiful actresses have played that rule. She's an outcast because she's green, not because she's ugly.

I think everyone wants that. But we're talking based on the assumption that Hollywood will yet again cast based on name. We're just trying to come up with big names tgat might actually be able to pull off the score.

Maybe she would if they wrote a new song for Nessa but even that wouldn't expand the role too much.

I loved that they filmed Les Mis in London as the setting was appropriate with the time period, so we got loads of west end cameos. Sadly I imagine Wicked will be filmed in a studio in LA or something so we won't see our favourite performers appearing as citizens of oz.

Surely Meryl is booked for Madame Morrible? Like, that is something that just has to happen!
I imagine they will give Kristin and Idina a cemeo, but I hope it is a smart cameo, not one designed just to have them on screen for 4 seconds to shut people up, it has to work!

I vote Idina for Witch's Mother and Kristin for the midwife, I think that would be a pretty funny and clever way to get them in there. And what about Norbert Leo Butz as Witch's Father to top it all off
