What song is that for, NOMTW? Don't quote me on this, but i think it's leading up to the Ozdust Ballroom scene. Oh interesting, but isn’t the governors mansion in munchkinland? I thought you meant elphaba’s dad/nessarose’s mansion

True. As I said, I wasn't sure. I only saw the daily rushes of filming, not the audio

Check out @/sweatyoracle recent on tiktok… yikes! All of that sounds pretty normal for a test screening to be honest. Sounds like the movie is on a good track. Not to disparage his video but he says a whole lot of nothing. He doesn’t get any new information. - We knew where Idina and Kristen’s cameos appeared. - We knew that Schwartz and Holzman also appeared in the same song. - We knew the Wizard sings Sentimental Man. - We knew The Wizard and I ended on a cliff top. - We knew the claim that all singing was done live on set wasn’t true. All new information he does claim to know about, extended dance sequences, Elphaba’s father appearing in Defying Gravity, etc, is something that could easily be explained by “oh it must have been cut after test viewings”. I’d have believed him more if we spoke about the new scenes in details, talked about the new songs. Or even gave us anything that wasn’t just a repeat of what we’ve seen through leaks and set pics.

It did make me laugh when he said that Elphaba's father was a character in the movie, I wish someone had pointed out to him that of course he's in it, he's the wizard! (though i know thats nott what he meant)
The new songs aren't in the first film, so he wouldn't have seen/heard them. Both Glinda and Elphaba get a new song. Elphaba's song is called There No Place Like Home and is about her being banished and not being able to see her family. The title is a great Wizard of Oz tie-in. Glinda gets a song called The Girl In The Bubble. Both are ballads.

Like nessarose? she doesn’t really care for her father, or do you mean family as a representative word and that would include glinda and fiyero?

In the musical it’s very evident she wants nothing but his approval despite never getting a hint of warmth from him. In the book she’s very close with him, they have a loving relationship.

That's actually the first thing they've released that makes me remotely excited for this film.

crying over this short video they’ve just uploaded, WOW do these snippets look incredibly rich and beautiful. I didn’t doubt either of the two leads from the start… Hopefully this will be the cinematic event of the year.

It looks beautiful, but I don't think I'll ever stop being disappointed that they cast Cynthia Erivo.

That behind the scenes video does a great job of showing the size of the production, and how much has gone into creating the different sets and costumes, hopefully dismissing some of the fears that it was all CGI and terrible green screens.

I only ask because I've been a big fan whenever I've seen her perform anything. I just don't like her. Her online persona put me right off the idea of ever seeing her perform live - though I suppose it's somewhat appropriate that she has a habit of deploying flying monkeys online if someone annoys her. And her involvement in the whole Great Comet debacle left a really sour taste in my mouth. Then, somewhat shallowly I'll admit, I just don't think she looks good in the role. She looks too old next to Ariana, and overall is just odd looking. I can get why that might have appealed to the casting directors for Elphaba, but it's not for me. She does have a beautiful voice, but I'm not convinced she won't mess that up by messing around with the score. That Defying Gravity ending was dire. Overall, I'd have cast almost anyone who has been Elphaba on Broadway over her, and quite a few of the West End actresses too.

West End/Broadway stars just aren't bankable in that way, especially for something that has as much riding on it as Wicked does. I always think the best example of the discrepancy is Patti Lupone. Musical theatre royalty, but barely makes a dent in the big or small screen comparatively. Bernadette Peters too. Ironically for some, Cynthia Erivo seems to be one such star that has managed to make the transition (so far).
Not saying it's right, I'd prefer it the other way, just saying that's how it is.

If they need someone with a bit more of a film reputation, Ariana DeBose was right there! Bah. I'm glad the casting works for some people and they can get excited, really. It's just disappointing for me, and after the Les Mis film mucked up so badly (Seyfried, Hathaway, Crowe and yes you Jackman I am looking at you) I was hoping for a good one.

Each to their own, but DeBose over Erivo?? 😳 have you seen this? And Tony winner …

The thing is, I don’t doubt her talent. Her voice isn’t the problem for me. It’s her personality and to some extent her appearance.
