On the point of Labour leaders and diversity - Ed Miliband, though an atheist, is of Jewish heritage. Was fascinating watching the same people in the media who threw every kind of nudge-nudge comment about ‘North Londoners’ at him then cry anti-Semitism every chance they got when Corbyn was in charge.

NZ just said on LBC that he’d give Boris a job in his cabinet if he were PM so I think we can discount him from the proceedings! Took me a couple of minutes to process. I can't be the only one that confused NZ for a country in the southern hemisphere As soon as the removal men and women are done at Downing Street, there is so going to be a by-election in Uxbridge, just as Tony Blair and David Cameron, he has an expensive lady to keep after all.

Good grief, who’s voting for Mordaunt? Her attempts to address her past comments on the women’s rights/trans rights issue are unconvincing and suggest she’s deeply untrustworthy. I think she’s a liability for women’s rights and safeguards, and I have no desire to see her in No 10. I will get a vote on the final two and if she’s there (which looks horribly possible), I sincerely hope I can play a role in keeping her out. (Assuming others wake up to the danger too. Or remotely care about it.) Though to be fair, there are a few other front runners i’d struggle to vote for too… as I think the electorate would.

It's an odd question for me. Do I want the best possible leader or do I want a car crash so they get removed from power at the next general election. Car crash votes goes to Truss, most competent maybe Tugendhat or Hunt as they both been absent from the spotlight over the past few years.

Yes Mordaunt would have been better off keeping to her previous position. Pretending to be a bigot to increase her appeal to the Conservative party members just makes her look like a liar to everyone.
But then honesty and the Tories are such uneasy bedfellows these days.

Even despite being a non brexiteer And she called an ill fated general election, that was the beginning of her downfall. Theresa decided honesty was the best policy with the dementia tax and all that. Think it is fair to say that Boris learnt a big lesson there. Boris downfall started with the backing of Owen Paterson. As for the ballot, I don’t care who wins, i’m so glad that Boris is gone!

I reckon Kemi's a shoo in for a Cabinet position.

The media love a cooky character; just like with Trump, media will continue to obsess over him.

Even though he's gone there's enough of a personality cult around him that I suspect any replacement will be wary of upsetting his fanbase.

Boris was always a charlatan even before he became PM and even Mayor of London. I reckon Boris' next move will be a TV gig of some sorts.

Johnson is Britain’s Trump anti establishment and ex presidents/prime ministers against them and emulating Trump was his actual downfall, he was unstinting loyal to people who were loyal to him, Paterson and Pincher, with those two names there was the beginning and the end. Boris also thought he was untouchable as a reward for getting Brexit done. Which you saw in tabloid newspapers who were happy to be loyal against this law breaking lying charlatan as a reward for Brexit. So loyalty and belligerents brought him down.

I wonder now that the field have been wilted down now to 4 LADIES and 2 gents, 3 of which are BAME. The Daily Mail will be screaming out ‘WOKE.’

I wonder now that the field have been wilted down now to 4 LADIES and 2 gents, 3 of which are BAME. The Daily Mail will be screaming out ‘WOKE.’ Nah, as we've seen already from right wing commentators it's the opposite. They'll use it to bash Labour for not being as diverse even though if Labour had this field for leader they'd condemn it as box ticking and virtue signaling. For the right, 'woke' is just used to describe anything they don't like. It's why they can use it to describe both protestors who tear down statues as not respecting history as well as attack the National Trust for commissioning actual historical research into the impact of slave trade money into the creation of the great houses they manage. They don't pause for a second to consider the hypocrisy.

Iain Dale is interviewing the candidates on his LBC show and they’re being released in his All Talk podcast series. It was Penny M last night and she flat out denied the trans thing. I have to say overall though she wasn’t that impressive. She’s flat out denying it left, right and centre, which is particularly hilarious because we have this little thing called Hansard. Not to mention reports on an unimpressive Mumsnet encounter. And the memories of several people in No 10, the HoL and HoC (and even Pink News!). Still, she seems to be getting away with it so far.

He'll go "low" for 6 months, whilst the press drip out all sorts of Boris on the beach pictures whilst saying how he deserves some time out etc. Then he'll be back as the face of a new crazy remit. Couple of years down the line he'll be flying out to Aus for 'Im a Celebrity... Jungle' where we'll see some haunting scene like George Galloway's cat impression eating out the hands of Rula Lenska, only worse.

Very good point by Sparky5000, who sits well with a retired Colonel in Malvern or the Union Conveynor in Harringay may not sit best with the centralist swing voters in a marginal seat. Do people vote on policies or personalities or even the lesser of two evils? Boris had that poplulist appeal but on a world stage he did look a buffoon compared to other leaders and came across as blundering. Likewise the thought of Corbyn on a world stage made me laugh. I know this is partly about image but it is also rhetoric and what they say and how they come across. If say JVT was a politician he'd do well. Did you see that interview with Corbyn a week or so back. Doesn't give many interviews as he doesn't trust the press really. His first comment was, my first policy was going to end homelessness in the country in a week.... and they called me mad and dangerous I wish they could end homelessness and a lot was done to try and reach out to people in this situation. I'd much rather have people with a roof over their head than begging in the street. Ironically Labour were accused in 1983 of having an election manifesto which would bankrupt the country now Boris is the one who comes up with an idea off the top of his head and no thought of what the practicalities are.
