Bookies still have Tories favourites Not the most successful political party in the western world for nothing. We’re a nation of conservatives

I'd rather have Boris back than Truss, I think she would be a disaster for the Conservatives at an election.

I've only been reading the reports of the tv debates rather than actually watching them. Has any journalist had the courage to ask the candidates if they have had any contact in the past year with any of the national newspaper proprietors or their representatives, and, if so, what was discussed?

If I had a vote, I’d choose Rishi, but I think it will be Liz who wins.

Can’t stand either of them but I think Liz Truss could actually be dangerous. She’s totally clueless.

If that’s the only way Keir Starmer can win then that’s a problem for Labour too. I think it’s called “a race to the bottom”. I really wished that him and Angela Rayner had been fined and resigned to clear the way for a new Labour leadership. Someone we could vote for. Starmer is just as tainted as everyone is saying Sunak and Truss are.

Sure the choice of the 2 main course looks appetising and may even taste nice.
But it is a straight choice between salmonella and staphylococcus!

So after all the rounds of voting we end up with the former Chancellor and the current Foreign Secretary. Liz voted Remain and Rishi had that party fine so two major problems for me but I'm just a voter not a member so I'm pretty neutral as who is best choice but think Truss will edge it.

Voting Remain should be a big plus but she doesn’t actually seem to stick to anything for long; just whatever can bring her more attention.

Starmer is just as tainted as everyone is saying Sunak and Truss are. Sir Kier in my eyes is a competent intelligent party leader, he may lack a bit of charisma but appears calm and actually sounds and looks like a leader. After Ed and JC he is the first competent leader Labour have had in a decade plus since Mr Brown who I wasn't a fan of. Rayner I don't like and is a nasty piece of work and a throw back to the old days of labour without the intelligence and whit of a Tony Benn. As a Conservative voter I was hoping Starmer might fall on his moral sword and Labour be plunged into another idelogical leadership battle. If Sir Kier had gone the choice of successor is a limited pool, Wes Streeting looks pretty impressive but had a cancer scare last year so may want a few more years experience and to make sure his health is fine long term. David Lammy once a likely first black PM has only just got the sort of position his talent deserved but might he have been around too long if he was to rise right to the top. Other candidates are in Metro Mayor jobs they seem happy in.

Penny was more a female Boris, Liz is certainly a Maggie wannabe. People may not have liked Maggie but a lot voted for her and did well under her, maybe we need that sort of strong leadership today.
History has seemed to be unkind to longer serving PM's like Maggie and Tony Blair yet Major, Heath, Brown, May, Boris had more failures. Mr Wilson had a lot of failures but won 4 elections out of 5 so had great electability. Sir Winston got a lot wrong in his life but got the key thing right and if people had heeded him earlier things may have been different.

My mate has just reminded me of a conversation we had at Christmas where he had put a sizeable bet on Liz Truss to be PM before end of this year. I was laughing at him for at least five minutes. Just spent another five minutes laughing with him. Liz Truss. FML.

With every change of Tory leader since she left her legacy grows doesn’t it?? Liz Truss in the same sentence. Stop it.

I'd never compare Liz to Mrs T. Like comparing Boris to Churchill or Kinnock to Blair.

I have a feeling this will be the Conservative version of when Labour chose the wrong milliband to lead them and then lost election.
