Do we really need a musical about a theatre blogger?
Oh, sorry, it's a different MJ. My bad.

Really not much buzz about this is there? Is it really starting performances in 48 hours? Anyone else going?

I'm going on Friday. It seems to be sold out this week.

The entire preview period is almost sold out by the looks of it.
I’m going later this week and very much looking forward to it. Loved it in New York.

Also going on Thursday. Booked in January and it was nearly sold out at this point. Only up to ten seats where available. Not a fan but looking forward to see something new.

Just succumbed & booked for Thursday matinee next week. Found a single seat in Stalls reduced. I'm not a fan but curious. Seems to be loads of seats available after previews. Radio ad this morning.

Ha - like me "not a fan but curious". I guess my curiosity stems from having grown up with his music and remembering the absolute madness that surrounded him (as I explained to one of my daughters, think Harry Styles x 100 and you get close to the mania that followed "wacko Jacko" around everywhere he went). I will probably go just the once to see how it is as I've a hunch it won't be around as long as people think.

Yes ceebee. I have vivid memories of a girl at school [Debra Bard} bringing in her record player & playing "I Want you Back" to us all in the gym. - raving that he was only 10 - only a very few years younger than us.

I’m very much of the ‘Bad’ tour era, and attended several shows (plus sold the tickets I won off of Natwest to my uncle). The recent past has tainted how groundbreaking his live shows were in both content & creativity. Only Madonna matched him at the time.

The recent past has tainted how groundbreaking his live shows were in both content & creativity. Only Madonna matched him at the time. My brother had tickets to see him at the O2 before he sadly passed away. Now without bigging my brother up too much, he used to be a successful DJ and Producer and knows his music. He LOVED Michael Jackson, despite being born in 1982 and discovering him through his "Dangerous" album. He maintains to this day that Jackson was the definitive pop star - something I find hard to argue with, despite not being a massive fan. (I'm speaking purely about music/performance, not any of the other stuff that has been discussed elsewhere on this thread.)

I have one ticket available for the first preview tomorrow. Free to a good home. Unfortunately, I have a work commitment. Details are on the Noticeboard. Thanks to everyone who messaged me. My PMs have never been so busy. The ticket is now claimed (mods - please delete the ad).

There next Thurs, so will report back. Although we’ll have had a week of shows by then so there’ll be lots of commentary on here by then no doubt.

Oh the joy of having lovely friends in the business. I managed to get a ticket to tonight’s dress rehearsal and all I can say is WOW.
The show was absolutely tremendous. Myles Frost is even better than in New York , An Olivier is surely coming his way (in 2025 I assume?) and the whole company is quite brilliant.
Fabulously staged, slick and with that catalogue of incredible songs. Stunning set, costume and lighting design.
Standing ovation after Thriller
I suspect London will really embrace this show, it’s on another level to almost any jukebox show that’s been here (though to call it that is way too reductive)
Can’t wait to see it Saturday (when I had tickets booked for anyway)
5 stars

I watched some videos from the show website / youtube. Looks really smart - there's a sequence where Jackson dances/competes with ghosts of innovative popular dancers of the past. It tips the hat (if you will) to those that came before, while putting him in their lineage and on a par - which is fine, because he obviously was.
True there's been little buzz around this, but I'm certain it will soon be a smash hit and run for years.

Fred Astaire, Nicholas Bros and Bob Fosse That’s the best number in the show for me- and the number it leads into. Incredible choreography

Also why all this ‘no buzz’ talk?
Sunset Boulevard hardly any before it opened- preview tickets were easy to come by, and MJ is all but sold out for the next 3-4 weeks. And doesn’t have a star in it.
I know an invited Dress isn’t the best gauge of a proper audience- but I haven’t seen an audience react to the songs like that … since seeing this very show in NYC.

Is there any way for mere mortals like many of us to ever get invited to an 'invited dress'? Seeing this week after next and VERY excited.

You’d have to be working on a show, or have a friend/connection working on it I think.

Very excited about tonight. (Thanks dr Tom) Also relieved to hear the invited dress went ahead last night. I have had a shocking run of luck with first previews being cancelled/heavily delayed so I’ve had to leave for trains etc. Or arriving in London only to find out it had been cancelled. Given I now travel for London theatre, touch wood this goes ahead as planned! Were there any delays, stoppages of malfunctions - and was it running to the listed running time please? It’s down for 2hr 30 incl 15 minute interval and a 7:30pm start, so out by 10pm?
