The Gate theatre emails me with the news they've appointed a Climate Change Activist bringing their listed number of staff and associates to 14. As far as I know they haven't got an AD, only an "interim" AD, and they also haven't got a theatre, their former one is not operating and they haven't found a new one yet. Their Executive Director is going to Leeds Playhouse in the Autumn. They are involved in a co-production at the Rose Kingston with Paines Plough and that seems to be the extent of their activity. This production is touring but the closest it's getting to Notting Hill is Newington Green. Here is their manifesto. www.gatetheatre.co.uk/manifesto-for-our-future/Anyone know exactly what's going on there ? It sounds like a shambles. Surprised ACE are still funding them given their low level of activity.

It looks like they are getting lost in a sea of their own self righteousness
How can you be so green and then demand to import productions from outside of the UK?
Surely if they are committed to reducing their environmental impact, local production is the only way forward. Causing creatives to travel from overseas isn't what I think of as being environmentally responsible.

They don't need a theatre:
"The shows must leave the building" "At least one show in every season must be made outside the UK"

Perhaps I am misreading their text then
They don't want to import shows, they want to create shows in other countries that will never be seen by their local audience.
That sounds like a wonderful use of limited public funding.

Also notable they are going to radically interrogate texts from before 2010 but by implication not from after that. Why 2010 ?

Opening in October with A Sudden Violent Burst Of Rain by Sami Ibrahim. He also wrote two Palestinians go dogging at the RC recently which was a mess but a very enjoyable one so I'm happily going to book and check out the new location.
