"A two-week Workshop of the new “CLUB MOSCOW” with Thom Southerland and Danielle Tarento is scheduled for London in July, 2022. “CLUB MOSCOW”, a new sung-through musical, takes a ride through the first decade of Post-Soviet Union Russia during the wild-west chaotic 1990’s – a kleptocracy of oligarchs, mafiosi, and corruption. Through the eyes of a street musician is revealed a roller coaster of a society careening off the rails, drunk on democracy and greed, and ultimately to be shut down by Putin to be transformed into the unfree dictatorship that it has come to be."

Not sure this is a show we need now. The description also seems to come from a book that doesn’t really understand what happened in Russia in the 1990s. Seems like a very peculiar time to try and launch, even in workshop form. I'm sure those involved will be glad for the work, but feels something of a fools errand.

What a foolish enterprise, at any time quite honestly but especially right now.

Well I assume the producers and creative team actually think it’s the perfect time to comment on this and more timely than ever. I kind of agree that in theory a sharp, chilling show about the downfall of Russia at least is more topical now than ever. I personally just am not convinced this team could actually pull it off and the show will be the worst sin of the theatre along with all of Yeston’s other shows except Nine: boring.

Yeah I think this sounds like it potentially could be interesting. I also agree it seems timely, it's very much Putins war and it has brought back the focus on the old USSR, the cold War mindset vs the freedoms gained from the fall of the Berlin wall and the fallout from it etc that has in turn led us to where we are now

As per this 2020 article, four tracks from the 'Maury Sings Yeston' demos album are from this show, or at least from an earlier incarnation thereof: 'Kolya', 'Soviet Union Blues', 'Tell Me About Your Wife' and 'To The Future'. t2conline.com/maury-sings-yeston-the-demos-to-celebrate-the-composers-75th-birthday/I've had a listen on Spotify, and without more context I don't think these tracks tell us much about what the show is; but it's still interesting to hear them.
