When the buses in Manchester were de-regulated, all the companies wanted a slice of the most lucrative routes. One of them was the Oxford Road corridor to the University/Fallowfield student residences. It ended up with so many companies running 6 buses an hour on weekdays that you could hardly see any other vehicles along the road. There was a memorable morning when Piccadilly Gardens and the streets leading off to Oxford Rd and St Peter's Square got totally gridlocked. If the buses are under TFGM control, it will ensure that this doesn't happen again and all bus routes get a decent number of services running. Just out of interest and I am, as it is my line of work. TFGM is extremely well run, especially Metrolink which is very well managed, their project management team are great and have delivered. You mention Oxford Road and it is quite a wide road, so I am surprised at St Peter Square that the Metrolink hasn't been extended down there, towards the hospital and university, as you say it is busy with buses, so will raise revenue, to operate a tram, it will be quite environmental, than gas guzzling buses. I live on one of the side streets off Oxford Road, opposite Circle Square (where the BBC building used to be). Cars can’t drive down it anymore as it’s been made a “bus corridor” which is fine, I don’t own a car, but means that all of the cars are using the adjacent streets. It doesn’t reduce pollution, it just spreads it a bit wider. Oxford road is still busy (not as much as when it had cars obvs) but we still have buses and taxis queuing at peak times.

It will offer me a slightly better chance of catching the last train back to my part of the West Country after a show so I’m quite excited - far better than stressing as the plodding, if charmingly vintage, Bakerloo line rattles it’s way from the West End to Paddington… Tottenham Court Road to Paddington took 3 minutes yesterday

It’s been quicker for me to do Paddington-TCR-Waterloo on Elizabeth/Northern than to take the Bakerloo direct.

Tottenham Court Road to Paddington took 3 minutes yesterday Thats amazing. I guess when Bond Street is open that will add a few minutes to the journey time but even so that's fast. Google Maps has the journey from Paddington to Tottenham Court Road as 5 minutes but perhaps that was an estimate.

Does anyone know roughly the time it takes to get from the Elizabeth line platform to the Jubilee platform at Canary Wharf? Can't seem to find out online.
Going to the O2 next week and my initial excitement about cutting out a bunch of faff getting there from Paddington has died down now I realise it probably isn't going to make much difference what with changing.

Trip took 30 mins to get back from Stratford to Paddington. Had to change at Liverpool Street and end trip on oyster card to get through gates then 8 min walk to the west bound line to Paddington, 3 min wait for next train then only two stops to Paddington. Certainly going to be great being able to get from Paddington to Tottenham court road and the west end in minutes rather than the rattling multi stop bakerloo line.

Went one stop from Paddington to TCR on the Elizabeth Line and the scale of the stations are impressive but also the fact that the train and the journey is super smooth. I'm planning to do Paddington to Abbey Wood sometime next week and see the rest of the stations but I think this is a great addition to the transport system.

The stations are something else and unlike the Underground there is a sense of space, there is no dot matrix displays on the stations, these are instead built into the platform doors.
This will improve when all the dots are linked in October and Bond Street finally opens.
It is clear London now needs Crossrail 2 to take the strain off the Northern, Bakerloo & Victoria Lines, as well to cater for the extra passengers at Euston when HS2 opens.

Crossrail 2 might have be wait at least another decade or two just because of HS2 but I think it will happen. There were moans online about the Class 345 not having USB ports unlike the Class 710s on the Overground but they've been service since 2017 it's not too surprising they don't have them.

I wonder how many people have been going on the Elizabeth Line just to explore? I know I did yesterday through the central section. I did leave Farringdon to walk to Liverpool Street although in hindsight should have gone to Moorgate as it's closer and you access the EL platforms from there and also finding out that Abbey Wood is frankly the middle of nowhere.
Once the central tunnels connect I do plan to go from Ealing to either Abbey Wood and Paddington to Shenfield as well as visited Bond Street when it finally opens.

What’s it like changing at Liverpool Street to Stratford? Fairly straightforward? It's a short walk between Liverpool Street EL entrance to Liverpool Street mainline, just don't go to the Moorgate end of the platform!

I went on it just to see what it was like. I found the seats very hard, glad I wasn't on it for 3hrs including a 20 minute interval. Other than that, good.
