Saw this last night in the newly refurbished Olivier, smelt a bit like a Carpetland warehouse, but much improved. It one of the best shows I have seen. The first half was a bit slow and I saw a couple of empty seats after the interval but I found the second half really gripping. I don't know much about Indian history but this really brought home some of the story. The actors were all very good and the gent playing the assassin was excellent. I didn't think the asides to the audience were good, a bit like Miranda, and the brexit joke was a cheap laugh. Do try and see it, quite a few empty seats upstairs and to the sides. A fairly stark set but clever use of the drum revolve and the prison bars. No music but some good sounds added to the atmosphere without being intrusive. I give it 5*****.

When i went last week it was very empty and even more so after the interval.
I thought it was fine but nothing more.

Saw this last night as well and agree with cartoonman that the second half was stronger than the first, but also with Someone in a tree that it was just fine overall. The use of narrator and overall structure seemed very familiar and only a few scenes really were gripping. But there was some good staging and one actor (the one who played a childhood companion who came back as a jokey surprising recurring minor figure from his life) was always a welcome presence. I overheard some students commenting on it on the way out and one, when asked if he liked it, replied, 'I respected it.' Fair enough.

Two stars. Nice performance from the lead but fairly dull overall. A few non-returners after the interval.
