A rare Pinter piece here. A stage adaptation (which he personally approved) of his novel. Previously seen years ago at the Tricycle. The White Bear is a bit hit and miss but Pinter enthusiasts may be interested. www.whitebeartheatre.co.uk/whatson

Ok so this really is one for completists. An adaptation of a radio play in turn adapted from a novel and I believe there's also a tv adaptation somewhere.... it lacks some of the dramatic tension habitual to Pinter's stage work but it does seem to be a harbinger to what come afterwards in some ways.
There's some of the familiar menace (although the characters here tend to be friendlier to each other than is par for the Pinter course), the "triangles of power" and the sexual ambiguity of female characters. The informed mono or dialogues - a particularly good on how to get from west London to south London on buses after midnight - plenty of recognisably Pinteresque writing and situation.
Apparently semi-autobiographical, it's not hard to guess who the Pinter character might be.
Nice, neutral and functional set which serves for interiors and exteriors, decent acting performances all round, if you haver any kind of interest in Pinter don't miss this because you never know when it will be revived next.

I had hoped to fit this in and was pleased to find a 4pm Sunday matinee, very civilised
Pinteresque eh?
Really enjoyed the cast, I thought the three guys were all great. Not to take away from Denise Laniyan but when the three are stand-ins for various aspects Pinter thought about himself, these were always going to be meatier roles. Quite funny at the start and then suddenly not funny at all. Hugely intense in places and the tiny venue really adds to this - I actually physically recoiled at one point as the violence suddenly moved towards me.
Unexpected and particularly funny moment later on with a stray match and the two lads clearly amused but kept there amusement to a couple of in character ad-libs, some quick thinking.
Very enjoyable afternoon all around and glad I did manage to see this one.

Yes I agree with that. It was hard to believe it started as a novel, it was just like a minor early Pinter play. Very well acted I thought and well worth seeing for those with an interest in Pinter.
