Interesting they've cancelled for longer than most shows at the moment. I wonder if that's to do with the cast change that would be happening this month and the time to re-rehearse in a new ensemble. Possibly, they probably need longer with it being 2 shows too. Or maybe they’re aligning it with Broadway, also scheduled to restart first week of September? Doubt it's the Broadway thing - the two countries have entirely different regulations etc and may well have very different rules in place by September. Good point about it being two shows though.

My January ticket has been postponed (announced early August), I filled in the form but haven't heard back Has anyone else? (booked via Nimax)
I have looked online and it looks like I have been assigned a new date but not sure If I can rely on that! I've asked for May and I know both January and May are a long way off but my 2021 is getting busy and already had one double booking!

Just booked this for the end of September next year, with reasonable confidence that I'll be able to go. Tickets are really easy to book just now and NIMAX is even letting you pick your seat (the inability to do this is why I haven't been before).
Grabbed front row of the dress circle so assuming all is running by then, looking forward to it!

Delayed again
It is now well over a year since the Palace Theatre, alongside the rest of the West End, was forced to shut its doors and we suspended performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Whilst it has been the most challenging year for so many of us on so many levels, we are incredibly grateful to all our audience members who have held onto their tickets and supported the production when we needed it most. It is because of your support and dedication that we are able to announce, in line with the UK Government’s roadmap to reopening, that we will be resuming performances of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre from 14th October, 2021.
Within the framework of the Government’s reopening strategy, this date will allow us to safely reunite our extraordinary creative and production teams, actors, stage management, technicians and backstage staff to re-rehearse our spectacular production, and coordinate the most up-to-date health and safety protocols throughout the Palace Theatre to ensure all our patrons and everyone working on stage and off, backstage and front of house, have the best time and feel safe and secure throughout their time with us.
As always we thank you for your understanding and commitment to our production.
We look forward to welcoming you back to British Theatre and to Harry Potter and the Cursed Child from 14th October at the Palace Theatre, when the magic continues on stage!
Sonia Friedman & Colin Callender – Producers of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I've finally asked for a refund for the tickets I had in August, as I still have some for November which should stay as is.

I wouldn't be surprised, it's never been as big as in London and the two shows format doesn't help with the sales with tourists. They could easily make it into a three acts play and call it a day.

It also was more of an event, dedicating a whole day (or two evenings) to it, sitting with the same people again, several cliffhangers. Being one part makes it just another show, nothing spectacularly special. So I doubt it, but not impossible, no. Wouldn't be interested in a shorter version though. And it would mean you have several different versions of the play running worldwide, if you change the Broadway version and maybe some other productions, I doubt Hasmburg for example would follow.

A pet hate of mine is when plays that were originally written in three acts (as that was the standard at the time) presented in two acts today. It leads to either very uneven halves or a horrendousl scene change. I imagine taking a four act show and turning it into a three act would be the same. I hope this isn't the plan.

Very interesting. Not unexpected but still interesting to see how they will handle it.

Was the original ever filmed? There’s so much merchandising around Harry Potter it seems odd they’ve not cashed in on the play more.

From what I heard, the plan is for all productions around the world to be the one-show version, excluding the West End production, which is the flagship production so to speak x

I'm sure it would sell really well. Deadline is suggesting the Melbourne and Hamburg productions will be two parts but I imagine once they finish their runs, it'll change to the new version so they can tour it.

All North America production to be one part. For the moment rest of the world inc Australia which has reopened, London and the new production in Hamburg still going to be two parts.

Will be interesting to see if the upcoming Tokyo production is the original two part version or the new one part version.

Good, America gets the crappy new version, we keep the old one.

I might be daft here, but I wonder if the difference is due (in part) to the relative amounts of annual leave people get. In the UK and Europe we get far more, so we're more likely to have an extended city break and be comfortable with the idea of seeing a show over two nights.
It's something I noticed in the discussions about Wimbledon. Americans have always been baffled by not playing on the middle Sunday on the assumption that no normal working people would use up annual leave to go and watch tennis on a week day.
Presumably it helps that loads of people that might want to see a play or live tennis live within easy commuting distance of London, but I'd have thought it's similar to New York on that front.

I think it's more that the usual tourist crowd wants to see one show on Broadway or in London, so they have 'done it'. Explaining to someone, who doesn't go to the theatre often, that you have to sacrifice a whole day or two evenings to watch this has always been the hard sell with this production. I remember HP fans in the beginning, moaning about not getting a ticket and that they were so expensive and it was only in London etc. It is theatre, not a film everyone can go watch for $7 the same day. It's an exclusive and elusive hobby.

Meh. I’ll wait until the inevitable release of the filmed stage version.
