Well, what a delight that's going to be. Gorgeous, intimate venue for it. It's such a gem of a show, one of my favourite scores of recent years, and hugely moving. Question is...who will play Dina? Because we don't have Katrina Lenk's in Britain Sophia Foroughi, currently playing Gibran's mother in BROKEN WINGS, would be wonderful. As would Zrinka Cviteši from ONCE. Zrinka was my first thought as to who could play this well! This and Once (well the film more than the stage show) actually remind me of each other in some ways. She's not been very active since then though, has she?

She is doing lots of theatre in Croatia and I think did a few movies, too. But not done much in London. I would LOVE for her to come here and do it. :-)
I mean, the show isn't my favourite, I enjoyed it well enough on Broadway but it wasn't on my list to desperately see again. Really is going to be reliant on a VERY GOOD Dina.

Does anyone ever get any decent seats these days (without a subscription?) I don't want to sit on the side upper level........Mind you their schedule has not been inspiring (for me) lately anyway. Yes, found it quite easy to book with them with good seats often available.... although we mainly do go for the upper side ourselves for price point reasons
And while it is mentioned on the website and occasionally on social media, it doesn't get as much promo as other theatres might do, there is the Donmar Dailies scheme, in which a small number of tickets at all price points are released at 10am, 7 days before that particular performance.

I see this and A Doll’s House Part Two are in whatsonstage’s article on shows that need to come over to the UK. Interesting timing.

Could Idina be Dina? The place she’s in looks similar to the start of the film trailer for The Bands Visif…

I dunno I think she preferes originating roles. And I suspect that if they had a name as big as hers they'd open in a West End theatre for a limited season, they could charge higher prices than Donmar and have a bigger audience as well. But you never know

So I just got back from seeing this show in Southern California 10tony awards no less … I knew nothing about it but gave it a go … maybe it was the pace , maybe it was because it was in a huge 3000 seat theatre could be many things but For the first time in my life I felt like not going back after the interval ….. sad thing was there was no interval …. 1 hr 45 min straight through … around .8 people in our section left after an hour and never came back
Is this a marmite show ? Anyone else really love it ? Or not so much ?

I’ll hopefully be able to give it another whirl at the Donmar though.

There was something very magical about it and the atmosphere created in the theatre, I personally felt very drawn in, invested and touched by each character's journey - however small they are in reality. As drowseychap says, I can imagine that may be lost in a larger venue so the Donmar is a very good fit for it.

Caught this in New York and have to agree unfortunately that I didn't quite get the hype - ultimately I was just a wee bit bored with the whole thing

It’s nice, and the music is really lovely but it lacks in energy and story. A band accidentally arrive in a town where nothing happens… and then nothing continues to happen.

Little, subtle, emotional stuff - granted - but there are so many layers bubbling away. It’s not an action packed spectacle, no, but every character is yearning for something new and different, which almost but never quite arrives for most. It’s like a musical Chekov. I thought it was beautiful.

How is this selling in priority booking? I would say pretty well..looked at quite a few dates and each one had more sold seats than available..

Nice and easy this morning. Grabbed two front row seats for the matinee in October. Would say at the moment about 50% sold

Yikes. When did the donmar become so expensive. It had better be good!

Never booked with the Donmar on a ticket release day before, was surprised how easy it was. With there being no online queue I was expecting a painful experience, but there was plenty of availability and I had my confirmation email instantly.

Agreed, selling well but I nabbed a front row stalls seat for an early performance. Excellent booking site and process.
