I assume they won’t be having a rotation of guest performers like we initially thought? I know Mandy Patinkin is in town soon and would love if he did a guest appearance in this.

He could very easily slip into the very end of Act 1 and play George. It's only saying a few lines and no singing and seeing him and Bernadette together in that section would be great.

I would pay big bucks to see that. I hope if it happens they communicate ahead of time!

Are they ever releasing the cast recording? Seems bizarre to leave it so late now the show is open.

It's the original gala concert recording rather than the current show. Agree it's late coming out as they could have cashed in by selling it at the theatre. I would say quite a lot of the audience would prefer a CD rather than stream judging by the average age. And I mean that in a nice way as I include myself.

I see that sadly Haydn Gwynne has died - presumably she was ill and that's why she withdrew from this. A real shame, she was excellent.

The BBC confirmed she’d received a cancer diagnosis which is absolutely awful. I’m at work currently so can’t check to confirm but I swear the Old Friend’s program mentioned they hoped she could return later in the run, so they were probably unaware of the details…

So glad I got to see Haydn several times in the Bake Off Musical. She was brilliant as Pam Lee. RIP.

Whilst I appreciate that the show is dedicated to the late, great Stephen Sondheim, I wonder if going forward they may also dedicate a performance to her? It might be nice given her initial involvement in the show #herestotheladieswholunch

Nice tribute on Old Friends FB page too.
“The tragic news that the much loved actress, Haydn Gwynne, has died this morning after a very short illness is an enormous shock; even to those of us involved in Sondheim’s musical celebration Old Friends at the Gielgud, who already knew she was ill and forced to leave rehearsals for a show in which she already had a sensational success at its Gala Premiere last year, stopping the show singing The Ladies Who Lunch. Haydn was a truly wonderful person, as well as a phenomenally talented actress and singer, so it is a double tragedy for everyone to be deprived of both her spectacular talent and her company so abruptly. The Company of Old Friends is dedicating tonight’s performance to her memory and extraordinary career. As Haydn raised a glass to the audience and said, “I would like to propose a toast…”, everyone in the Gielgud Theatre tonight would like to propose a toast to dear Haydn. God bless her.” Cameron Mackintosh

I saw the Sondheim Gala Premiere for Old Friends last year.
I remember that she sang 'The Ladies Who Lunch' but forgot that she also sang 'The Little Things You Do Together' with Rob Brydon.

This is utterly devastating news. She was a true class act, on and off stage. It hurts to think we’ll never see her onstage again.
Here’s to you Hayden 🍸

Such terrible news , she was only recently diagnosed apparently. We met her briefly after the gala last year and she was so lovely. she was hilarious in The Windsors too.

Beatrice Penny-Toure just posted some footage of Haydn Gwynne singing How Could I Leave You? during a rehearsal - I don’t know if that was rehearsals for this specific concert, but if it was then it’s really interesting that Gavin Lee singing the male version done by Michael Ball was the back-up option once she’d dropped out. I love anything Gavin Lee does do him having a solo song is great, but it’s still interesting (if that footage is from the recent rehearsals, which it might not be)
