'Further names set to appear during the 16 weeks is to be revealed' That sounds like people will be doing a few weeks here and there. I assume they'll add some more men to the line up. Jac Yarrow might be a good Anthony, but i dont think he's ready for Sweeney just yet. Lea Salonga hasnt been on a London stage in 27 years? That doesnt sound right. The song I heard him sing in the concert was either Toby or Anthony, I can't remember now but definately wasn't a Sweeney number.

I'm also hoping the tickets will be priced better this time round. I'm assuming it will be because of the longer run. Great line-up so far!

The prices were high last time as it was a one off charity concert but as this is a proper run they will, no doubt, be more realistic.

She was on stage for the Miss Saigon anniversary in 2014 and she did a concert at The Royal Albert Hall, just last year. I was at both and they were both amazing. It could be that she hasn’t been in a show in London for 27 years, maybe

but i dont think he's ready for Sweeney just yet I'm guessing that Jeremy Secomb who played Sweeney in the Harrington's Pie and Mash Shop version in London (Mackintosh help fund the recreation of the shop on Shaftesbury Avenue) and New York will do the Sweeney songs here. Of the cast announced so far I'd most like to see Joanna Riding play Mrs Lovett.

One would assume it'll be Jeremy Secombe and Lea Salonga personally, as she's played Lovett before.
Would LOVE to see Jo do Lovett though

Have they said when tickets for this go on sale?

"Tickets will go on sale on 22 February at 11am to priority bookers and DMT Plus members, with a general on-sale on 27 February at 11am", via the WoS link up there. I'm really excited but hesitant about booking very early if the additional performers will be on a rotating basis - I have preferences!

I was told a few months ago (but embargoed until now) that the plan is to have cast rotate in and out to accommodate “name” availability. It does make me laugh when people say this. I'm not saying you didn't know and you have known things in the past, but it's an anonymous chat board, unless people are using their real name or they're are the only person in the world to know, why not say it? Someone saying they knew something after it's announced makes me think they didn't have a clue. As for the rotating cast, that's what I thought it would be: It will probably be about 6 people, and maybe they'll swap people in and out during the run, depending on availablility. Though to go from a predicted run of 5-6 weeks to 16, seems a big leap. I guess they are confident enough with the names appearing that it can sustain it for that long. Maybe different people will come in with different songs and change the set list. If that's the case i could be very poor at the end of the run.

I reported earlier about seeing Jac Yarrow perform a number from Sweeney in a concert. Well apologies but just realised it was Sam Tutty not Jac. I'm sure Jac will be great though.

Any idea when the alternating casts will be announced? I don't want to book and find I'm lumped with Alfie Boe, Biggins and Boris

I'm not saying you didn't know and you have known things in the past, but it's an anonymous chat board, unless people are using their real name or they're are the only person in the world to know, why not say it? Someone saying they knew something after it's announced makes me think they didn't have a clue. Has it been announced anywhere? I thought it was just another poster speculating. It's getting pretty damn boring that I can't post anything without being more or less being accused of being a liar. I've been a frequent poster here since all the way back to the days of the old board, I've broke tons of exclusives over the years. I was the first person to break the news about Tammy Faye long before Baz tweeted it as an "exclusive" and I was the first person to post (admittedly via hinting) that the Sondheim concert was coming back for a run. So why do I get ragged on all the time? It's pretty hypocritical that anytime I post news - even if it's about my own bloody shows! - I get snide comments and scepticism, yet other posters are treated like their every word is engraved on stone tablets, when they admit they don't even work on those shows. Hell, I've posted stuff and been called a liar and basically heckled, then seen other posters repeat what I'd already said and suddenly the same information is the gospel truth. Really, I don't know if it's because I'm strident in my political views (which I know aren't popular here) or resentment because I work on some of these shows, but the constant sniping is really starting to feel like bullying.

Am I missing something with this? The excitement for the one-off concert, I could understand. It was huge, it was unmissable. All those individual performers coming together to celebrate Sondheim and his work for one night. And it absolutely delivered, both on a performance, emotional and celebratory level.
But this upcoming run leaves me cold. What is it a run of exactly? "Old Friends" - the revue as we saw it last year - was largely curated for the performers available. So, for example, Imelda Staunton's solo was there because she was Imelda Staunton and that's what she chose to sing. There were a few wonderful new arrangements of group numbers, granted, but outside of that it was a concert of largely unconnected Sondheim songs. There wasn't a through line, there wasn't a real theme, because realistically many of the songs were there because those performers have previously performed them in the past. I'm not complaining or finding fault - that concert did absolutely what it needed to do, and did it brilliantly.
But they're selling this run as the same thing. Is it even the same show? Are we expecting Salonga (or Biggins on the nights she's not available...) to wheel out Judi Dench's chair for a sat rendition of Send in the Clowns? Are Jac Yarrow and Janie Dee popping on Ball and Friedman's Sweeney Todd outfits for that elongated segment?
Don't get me wrong, I am totally here for a concert featuring Bernadette Peters and Lea Salonga. But what actually makes this 'Sondheim's Old Friends' and not just a different concert of Sondheim songs? Because surely it's going to be a different show. It may well be a brilliant show. But - arguably - it might therefore have done better sold as such.

I hope they can give Bernadette “Send in the clowns”. Would be happy for her to give up I Know Things Now or Children Will Listen to someone else.

But - arguably - it might therefore have done better sold as such. You actually make some valid points and something I was thinking about also. I think this version will have to be slightly different as many of the songs were put in for that particular performer.i.e Judi Dench. So maybe some different material rather than a carbon copy. However I'll still be there loving it as I'll go to the opening of a paper bag if it's got Sondheims name on it.

And don't forget the songs that could have been included from other shows and sung but weren't because Cameron Mackintosh had no involvement.
This is Sondheim and Bernadette will be performing for a run- not just a night.
Take my money (it's that simple!)

If there are loads of other songs included, it's inherently not the same show. I just find it... annoying I guess that they're selling it as "the same" concert? If anything, they're doing both versions a disservice and somewhat diluting the aim of that original one-off. "Bernadette and guests celebrate Sondheim" (by a better name) could have - and should have (IMO) - been something new.
