I assume Maria had first dibs on Mrs Lovett but also perhaps Imelda didn't want to do it. I’m not a Maria fan, but she was very good I must admit. Gotta love the audience who laugh at every lyric like they’ve not heard them 500 times before 🤣

Damian Lewis really needs to be cast in a musical, which one I don't know.
I would love to see a revival of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Whoever decided on the placement of AJC’s Gimmick hearts should never work again.

I was really hoping they were going to say at the end that the DVD and cast recording is now available to buy.
Thought it was filmed well.
Did you notice how the audience waited until the very last note of every song before applauding? Just how it should be.

I know Petula Clarke is still hanging In there.. aka still alive, but she is just awful. I’m still here was a car crash. A total waste of a brilliant number. Zero connection to any Lyric or emotion in that song.

Zero connection to any Lyric or emotion in that song. It was appropriate to have her for a one off gala I suppose but she didn’t do it justice. Understandably. Tracie Bennet for the run?

Loved the Sweeney Todd section. Thought Maria Friedman was superb. I saw her as Mrs Lovett years ago and she was excellent, and I'm not usually a fan Ugh Michael Ball just isn't convincing as serious/menacing etc, and he always has to nod his head when he sings

Loved this! Can’t believe they cut the ending. Sad to see no representation for Assassins (although, I get why)

I loved this show, some terrific performances, with Maria Friedman , Haydn Gwynn, Bonnie Langford and Imelda Staunton outstanding , for me. Petula Clark was worse than Elaine Paige singing “I’m Still Here”, and that takes some doing . It was dreadful . Bernadette Peters was, well, Bernadette Peters. Strange voice, no emotion, her face doesn’t move, anyone ever see her smile? I saw her in 1999 in “Annie Get Your Gun” on Broadway. She was over rated then and hasn’t changed .

I would swap the Dick Tracy number with Unworthy of Your Love
Overall it was a great event. Cutting off Our Time was a great mistake.

I love that Imelda had her own musical director. What a queen.
Terrible that they just faded out the finale rather than end it properly.

A few performances aside it's a brilliant concert and so pleased it's been preserved. But no interest in seeing it live personally, especially if Bernadette is the headline.

Yes a pity it was cut at the end. It didn't come over as well i felt as it did live, but things never do. I actually thought Petula did a decent job of what is a long song for someone almost 90 at the time. Some of the song choices were not very commercial and it's a pity Not While I'm around was missed off but hey!

Elaine Paige was supposed to be in this .. what happened? She pulled out, as did Hannah Waddingham. I think AJ Casey took over the stuff Hannah was going to do. HW released a statement explaining she was unwell and was very sorry not to be able to take part - very late in the day from what I remember. Meanwhile, EP was just removed from the lineup months in advance with no explanation. So I don’t think it’s fair to say they both “pulled out” and imply they were similar circumstances. HW was openly gutted to miss it. Overall a good production, even if the editing was rather ropey in parts (Bernadette’s hair changed visually a few times between consecutive shots in Children Will Listen, there were some strange unplanned shots during Judi Dench’s number, and of course the unforgivable fade out before the end!) I just can’t see it sustaining a longer run though, at least not to the same acclaim. As a one off it was brilliant, but I personally just don’t think there’s anything really unique or specific to the show/format/running order to hold it together with a different group of performers. It will just be another Sondheim concert with some star names. Not necessarily a bad one, but not THIS show.
