Visit number 3 last night and again a brilliant evening. Sat again in one of the "bouncy" seats. Love them as its almost immersive. Took a friend who admits she is not a fan of musicals. She is more ballet and modern dance person but she absolutely loved this. She had also not heard of Charley Stemp. I explained that in MT circles he is as big as you can get but outside of that he is unknown. I really wanted to stage door as I bought a poster last night and would love Charley to have signed it but has been told its about an hour before he comes out which was just too long for me. I never stage door but really wanted to do it for this show. I'm about to book my next visit and I'm going on one of the nights his understudy is on as I hear he is really good. sorry, late to the convo. But what is a 'bouncy' seat? The front stall seats- on the famous revolve- bounce a lot during the dance numbers. Not sat there myself but sounds fun! |

Finally caught up with this today, courtesy of the lottery, in Row D in the 'bouncy' seats! Fully agree it's fun. I remember seeing Crazy For You some years ago and being totally bored. I wasn't keen to go originally, but this afternoon I went for two reasons: one, to see Charlie Stemp, and two, a friend wanted to see it. This time I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was a delight to be so close up to those dancing feet (I know, wrong show!).

My double show day concluded with a trip to the Gillian Lynne and after last years visit to the CFT where I cam away frustrated with having a bad side view, tonight’s viewing couldn’t of been anymore different and made the world of difference to watching this show. I ended up getting a front stalls row F seat (F45) via the LWT 50% off sale a few weeks ago. You really get the full bounce effect sat here during the dance numbers.
It great old fashioned musical with some catchy tunes performed by a brilliant cast led by the wonderful Charlie Stemp (that smile and cheeky grin of his can light up a room) and a fantastic 16 piece orchestra, I couldn’t of asked for anything more from this show for a 5⭐️ night out in the West End. For me it was theatrical heaven and came out after the show with a big smile on my face and humming the tunes.
Seeing the show face on rather from the side in my previous viewing, I could really take in the full set and enjoy the fantastic choreography from Susan Stroman. It was just a joy to watch whether it was Charlie dancing solo or one of the ensemble numbers. For me CFY works so much better on the GL stage than at the CFT.
Alongside the stunning dancing was the laugh out loud comedy moments both from Charlie as well as his pairing with Tom Edden. Their Act 2 comedy number - “ What Causes That?” was a highlight for me at the CFT and still is from tonight’s viewing. A lot of silly fun on stage.

Finally got to see this last week. We bought our tickets right after they went on sale, but upgraded to better seats when they lowered the prices. We were last row Circle, and the view was perfection! There´s truly not a bad seat in this venue.
Not going to lie, I expected more with how hyped this has been. But it was still a very enjoyable night out. Charlie Stemp is a star, and he was perfect as Bobby Child. Yes, it was a very similar character to the ones he usually plays, but he´s so charming and talented, you just forget. Carly Anderson was also delightful to watch (and listen to, what a voice!). Tom Edden was very funny, and he made the audience have a blast! The rest of the cast and ensemble were on fire, and they all got their moments to shine which was very nice. The other star of the show is Susan Stroman´s brilliant choreography, especially the stunning "I got rhythm".
The orchestra sounded a bit thin and not properly mixed. Surely those 16 players and the orchestrations deserve a better sound system. And then, there´s the book. I felt it dragged a lot and didn´t make much sense. I often felt bored, waiting for the next showstopper.
A 2,5 star show, elevated to 4 by the cast, choreography and the venue.

Jack is a bit talented then isn't he? Understudying both male parts and both totally different.
I've actually booked for one of Jack's performances in a couple of weeks time out of curiosity but I hear he is very good.

Just wondering did anyone get a lottery link today? I signed up for the emails again last week and got the email on Monday but haven't had one today, maybe I forgot to press that I wanted both but I'm pretty sure I did.

I had the same problem when it was time for me to resubscribe. I definitely clicked for both but they didn't sign me up for the Friday again. Had to go in a make a new subscription request for the Friday, which was a bit annoying. |

Given so many people had been predicting an early closure, it still seems to be doing reasonably well? I know there’s a lot of papering going on but seemingly not enough to force it to shut up shop early.

Hmm - I think since they've "upgraded" the ticketing system a few weeks back it's all a bit broken!! I had to chase for my tickets the other day - hadn't been emailed out a few hours before show (and no view from your seat now on booking page either!) plus no lottery alerts...

I think with this it's likely a case of 'we might as well push on' as the costs for actually closing a show early and breaking the contract with the venue, are pretty big, so whatever their losses are evidently aren't big enough to warrant having to enter those discussions and they'll just push on til Jan |

Caught up with this for the first time since first preview tonight and it's in good shape. Audience quite thin on the ground in terms of those who had paid full price - it was probably 80% full, but you could easily tell who'd actually paid and who hadn't...
Stemp is a star. I think if they don't give him the Olivier for this then awards are kind of pointless at this stage.
Carly Anderson still really lovely - a shame the best actress category is STACKED for next year as she won't get a look in.
Cover Zangler highlighted how good Tom Edden is in this - that mirror number top of act 2 is a masterclass normally with Stemp and Edden, and it highlighted to me how hard the two leads worked to make that number work.
As always, no one does build in a musical number like Susan Stroman and I Got Rhythm goes off like like a firework and it's still thrilling.
I think 6 months was ambitious for this and they should have done a smaller run, but I do understand why they went for as long as they did.
