Crazy For You - Chichester / Gillian Lynne Theatre

Went again last night. Charlie’s Olivier to lose if I’m honest. The way he dances, mesmerising. And Carly Anderson is the perfect partner. Really great reaction from everyone in the audience last night.

The last time I got one was the 25th of September having signed up to 4 weeks worth on the 23rd of September.

I caught one of Jack Wilcox's performances last night and he is very good indeed. He is more matinee idol than cheeky chappie which Charlie is. His vocals were excellent and his dancing great however Charlie really can't be beaten on the dancing front.
If you didn't know who Charlie Stemp was then you wouldn't be disappointed not seeing him.
The only other cast change was the couple playing the English comedy role. They weren't anywhere near as good as the other couple.
Not full last night with quite a few empty seats. I noticed a few people moved from the far side dress circle further in just before the show started but an usher came and made them all move back which I thought was a bit petty.
I think another Charlie show is due before Christmas for me and probably try and book for the last night.

Better than being hands off! And to be fair, I’d always wait until the interval to do that.

Unless there´s a boss around which I doubt, utterly ridiculous. Surely they´d do the same if they weren´t working.

Finally caught the show tonight - Jack, not Charlie. I loved it overall and he was a great Bobby, but I can’t help being a bit disappointed as I did want to see Charlie and I’m not sure if I’ll get the chance now. That said, there’s nothing whatsoever to fault in Jack’s performance and if I hadn’t known any different I’d never have realised he wasn’t the regular lead. Very charming onstage - the matinee idol thing is spot on. I’d like to see him in other roles sometime.

I was surprised how much of this show I recognised and remembered from the 1994 (or thereabouts) tour. Lots of the same choreography, which is to be expected I suppose! I think this could do well on tour again.

'Nothing' does well on tour? Really?! 🙄

Hamilton, Les Mis or Disney are doing fine.

Otherwise stuff really isn't doing all that well on tour these days...

Hamilton is a unique show that will probably sell out on the road. Everything else isn’t selling as well as it would have years ago. It’s just a fact that the touring market is on its last legs.

It’s one and the same thing. Bad sales- half empty theatres.

Personally speaking, I now see far, far fewer shows in my local regional theatre than I would have years ago. This is because I have a finite amount to spend per year on theatre, and I prioritise the West End over touring stuff. If the West End was a bit more reasonable in terms of cost, I would have more to spend on touring shows closer to home.

I very much hope they have a boost in the show’s final month across the Christmas period. I know the story’s not Christmas-related but it does have that feel-good holiday show appeal.
